The Machine Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a machine shop, ensuring efficient processes, and maintaining a safe working environment. This role involves managing a team of machinists, coordinating prototype schedules, and implementing quality control measures. The Machine Shop Supervisor plays a crucial role in optimizing workflow, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring that KPI's are met. The supervisor needs to be effective in a fast-paced and agile environment.Key Responsibilities: Team Leadership: Lead and supervise a team of machinists, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure a high level of productivity and adherence to quality standards. Remain agile in approaches to succeed in a fast-paced and changing environment. Planning: Collaborate with engineering and planning teams to schedule and prioritize work orders, ensuring timely completion of projects while optimizing machine utilization. Quality Control: Implement and enforce quality control processes to guarantee the precision and accuracy of machined parts. Conduct regular inspections and address any deviations from quality standards. Workflow Optimization: Identify opportunities for process improvement and workflow optimization. Streamline production processes to enhance efficiency and reduce lead times. Maintain a set of KPI's across the aspects of the machine shop and use as feedback to drive improvement. Equipment Maintenance: Coordinate with maintenance teams to ensure that machines are properly maintained and serviced. Address equipment malfunctions promptly to minimize downtime. Safety Compliance: Enforce safety protocols and ensure that all team members adhere to safety regulations. Conduct regular safety meetings and inspections to create a secure working environment. Training and Development: Facilitate training programs for machinists to enhance their skills and keep them updated on industry best practices. Foster a culture of continuous learning within the team. Communication: Maintain open communication channels with other departments, such as engineering and procurement, to facilitate collaboration and resolve any cross-functional issues. Documentation: Keep accurate records of production activities, machine maintenance, and quality control measures. Generate reports as needed to track key performance indicators. Budget Management: Assist in budgeting and cost control measures for the machine shop. Monitor expenses related to materials, equipment, and personnel.Qualifications: High School Diploma with training in machining practices preferred. Proven experience in a supervisory role within a machine shop or manufacturing environment. Strong knowledge of machining processes, CNC programming, and related technologies. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Familiarity with safety regulations and quality control standards. Ability to analyze and solve problems, with a proactive approach to process improvement.
