Posting Period: January 04, 2024 - Until Filled Employee Group Type: NEAMAC NEA Managers, Attorneys, Confidentials Position Type: Temporary (Fixed Term) Salary Range: $69,412.00 - $114,221.00 Position Details: This two year temporary full time position supports the NEA's Office of General Counsel by writing and managing the office's newsletter and Sharepoint resource website, providing expert technical support to the office staff including creating PowerPoint and other visual presentations, providing highly skilled library and electronic file management, and providing limited administrative and secretarial support. Position Summary: This position supports the work of NEA's Office of General Counsel by writing and managing the office's electronic communications with affiliates including OGC's electronic law library on Sharepoint, which is an electronic resource site for lawyers across the country, providing expert technical support to attorneys including creating and maintaining databases, presentation materials, spreadsheets, reports, and correspondence; receiving and responding to email, telephone calls, and visitors; and handling meeting planning, calendar scheduling, voucher preparation, and travel arrangements. This position is also primarily responsible for overseeing the OGC's library and electronic and hard copy filing system. The essential functions of the position including writing, editing, website, library, and file system development and maintenance, using a personal computer and associated software to prepare and/or edit documents including legal briefs, correspondence, reports and presentation materials; using electronic and online research platforms to perform administrative and legal support functions; and using on-line research and e-discovery tools to support the work of the staff. This position works closely with staff and the General Counsel in preparation for NEA Representative Assembly, and assists in coordinating the NEA's annual attorney's conference. Limited travel required. Minimum Education Requirement: Bachelor of Arts degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired. Experience as a website manager, librarian or paralegal preferred. Minimum Qualifications: Strong writing and presentation development skills with demonstrated experience providing both in a prior position. Three years of progressively responsible experience in a comparable position either as a legal writer/editor, paralegal, or law librarian or similar position performing a full-range of legal support, including using a personal computer for word processing; developing spreadsheets/databases and presentation materials; using electronic communications and online research as well as electronic platforms for organizing and communicating information; composing, editing and proofreading documents; responding to information requests; and compiling, analyzing, and reporting information. Other Requirements: Excellent writing and proofreading skills. Note skills tests and proofreading/grammar tests may be given before or at the time of interview*. Must be able to occasionally work extended hours on evenings and weekends. Some travel required (up to 5 overnights per year). Selection Criteria: Tier 1 (Essential): Proven high-level skills in writing, managing electronic website and database and office organization and management, including management of file systems, as well as use of word processing, database, spreadsheet, and presentation software, electronic mail, and online information services (preferably MS Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva, Outlook, Sharepoint, and Inside NEA). Proven skills in oral and written communication, including proofreading and editing. Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and organize work and make informed decisions and recommendations. Effective analytical, interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Demonstrated flexibility in handling multiple/complex projects simultaneously under stringent timeframes and changing priorities/conditions. Demonstrated use of sound judgment for decision-making and ability to follow through on tasks with minimal supervision. Successful references. Tier 2 (Significant): Proven ability to do critical thinking and problem-solving. Tier 3 (Desirable): General knowledge of NEA General Counsel and its various functions. Familiarity with NEA's financial management system. Proven experience in coordinating and supporting meetings/conferences and travel logistics. Experience in a legal environment or in office or file management.
