Job Purpose/Scope:The Safety Manager is responsible for establishing and promoting the maintenance of a safe, accident-free, secure, and healthy work environment through achieving organizational objectives and regulatory compliance. This position provides daily leadership and coordination of all day-to-day health and safety requirements. Job Duties/Responsibilities: Essential Functions Plans, implements, and manages preventative health and safety programs. Ensures regulatory compliance and provides oversight of health and safety-related training programs. Participates in team meetings and provides a regular on-site presence. Regularly engages with and provides technical support to employees, site supervisors and managers. Objectively audit compliance in the workplace. Develop and implement training as needed. Conducts safety meetings, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective actions, and implement follow up assessments.Provides project management team with guidance on health and safety concerns and confirms project site fulfills industry, local, state, and federal guidelines, and regulations. Review existing policies and procedures, making recommendations for improvement. Develop new policies and procedures as needed to meet Project needs.Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with approved manuals, internal policies and procedures, contract documents, and good health and safety practices.Serves as primary contact for project site injury and incident notification, investigation, and case management. Maintains OSHA 300 Log and a written log of safety inspection activities, reports, and correspondence.Serves as Radiation Safety OfficerAssists Environmental Manager with environmental regulatory compliance and preventionEnsures compliance with Homeland Security Oversees First Response Team Education / Qualifications / Requirements Master's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Safety Engineering, or related discipline preferredMinimum 10 years safety and health professional with at least 5 years in heavy manufacturing preferred3+ years supervisory level safety professional experienceRadiation Safety Officer Certification or willing to acquireOSHA 500 and /or 501 Authorized Trainer Skills1. Communications Skills: Able to clearly present information through the spoken word; influence or persuade others through oral presentation in positive or negative circumstances with all levels of the organization; listen well. Able to write clearly and effectively to present ideas. Able to document and chart activities and data and to read and interpret written information. Able to communicate and interact with all levels of employees and management. 2. Leadership Skills: Skills to influence the actions and opinions of others in a desired direction to exhibit judgment in leading others to worthwhile objectives. Expert skills to interact with others in a warm and helpful manner while simultaneously building credibility and rapport.3. Administrative Policies and Procedures: Ability to read, interpret and apply regulations to effective policy development and application in the areas of safety and health.4. Team Building: Able to work with people in such a manner as to build high morale and group commitments to goals and objectives.5. Analytical Problem Solving: Able to use a systematic approach in solving problems through analysis of problem and evaluation of alternate solutions; use logic, mathematics, or other problem-solving tools in data analysis or in generating solutions.6. Organizational Skills: Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, and under deadline pressure. Ability to coach, mentor, and train across all levels of plant operations.7. Perceptivity skills: Skills to interpret verbal and non-verbal behavior; to develop accurate perception and understanding of others' feelings, needs, values and opinions; to be sensitive to and aware of personality differences and conflicts.
