The Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology is seeking, a licensed, credentialed Nurse Practitioner provides diagnosis, treatment, consultation, and follow-up to patients in the JHU Cardiology outpatient Clinic at Greenspring Station. The nurse practitioner will conduct independent clinic sessions, interviewing patients, taking medical histories, performing physical examinations, ordering laboratory tests, coordinating the continuum of care, providing education to patients and significant others, oversight of clinical testing, and prescribing appropriate treatments.Specific Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe goal of the NP in the Division of Cardiology is to streamline the provision of highly specialized professional service to patients, thereby improving patient care and increasing the efficiency of the physician group.Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations, establish accurate diagnoses, order pertinent laboratory tests, implement appropriate management plans and formulate concise relevant patient presentations for attending review.NP will write orders, prescribe medications, perform and monitor diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within their scope of practice.Initiate basic and advanced cardiac life support in response to emergencies.Participate in patient education initiatives and coordinate short and long-term patient care through consultation with multidisciplinary teams.The NP works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team and is responsible for providing comprehensive and age-appropriate care to both well and ill patients. The NP educates patients and/or intervenes in acute or chronic illness. Provides comprehensive, age appropriate and episodic care to patients as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team. Performs history and physical exams. Order appropriate laboratory and imaging studies. Perform tests and procedures as indicated.Establish a plan of care related to the patient's identified problems including medications, diet, therapeutic procedures, etc. Consults with other health team members regarding proposed treatment guidelines as necessary. Prescribes and regulates medications and formulas and performs other related procedures per NP Physician written agreement. Establishes priorities in patient's care and management. Records patient visit/interaction in concise, clear and timely manner in the electronic patient records. Evaluates effectiveness of plan and need for referral and/or follow-up. Evaluates effectiveness of previously implemented medical treatment. Evaluates need for follow-up. Arranges referrals when indicated. Assumes responsibility and accountability for organizing time and workload to meet patient, staff, and departmental needs. Adheres to departmental, organizational, State, and Federal policy, rules, and regulations. Communicates with health care team members to assure patient and organizational needs are met. The Nurse Practitioner practices within the guidelines of the department, and the Institution in accordance with the State of Maryland. The Nurse Practitioner is granted affiliate staff privileges by the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the Johns Hopkins Hospital; these privileges are renewed annually. Minimum QualificationsMaster's Degree in nursing, Registered Nurse license and Certified as a Nurse Practitioner. Must be licensed as NP in State of Maryland or other state where practicing.Additional experience may substitute for master's degree, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.Current CPR certification required. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment. Completion of the JHH credentialing process is required prior to start date.Preferred QualificationsMinimum 1 year of NP experience.Physical Requirements: Sitting, standing and walking for extended period. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s).
