Learn more at Position description: The Seattle Aquarium is in a new era of growth and opportunity calling for an experienced Financial Analyst to play a key role in advancing our financial health and sustainability into the future. The ideal candidate will have a strong financial acumen, a passion for a mission driven nonprofit organization, and the ability to contribute to financial decision making that advances our fiscal alignment to our mission and visions for a more equitable and regenerative world. This role will play a crucial part in ensuring our organization's financial health, transparency, compliance with regulations and exploring opportunities and strategies to keep us in a strong and responsive financial environment. Data nerds are particularly encouraged to apply for this position. Salary and benefits: Anticipated hiring range: $75,000 to $85,000 per year, dependent on experience. What you will be doing: Financial Analysis: Conduct thorough financial analyses, including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis, to support informed decision-making. Develop and maintain financial models to assess the financial impact of various scenarios and initiatives. Monitor and evaluate financial performance against organizational goals and benchmarks. Budgeting and Planning: Collaborate with department heads to create, review, and manage annual budgets. Establish a regular cadence of budget reviews with department heads. Create a forecasting model in the Workday Adaptive Planning software. Provide guidance and recommendations to ensure efficient resource allocation and cost control. Assist in the development of long-term financial plans and strategies. Grant and Fund Management: Manage financial aspects of grants, including budget development, compliance, and reporting. Track grant funds, ensuring that they are allocated appropriately and used in accordance with grant agreements. Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for internal and external stakeholders. Assist in the preparation of financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP accounting standards and nonprofit regulations. Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations, including IRS guidelines for nonprofit organizations. Identify and mitigate financial risks through effective risk management practices. Collaborate with the leadership team to communicate financial information and provide insights to support strategic decision-making. Assist in the preparation of financial presentations for board meetings and donors. Continuously identify opportunities to enhance financial processes, reporting, and efficiency. Implement best practices to streamline financial operations. What we would like to see from you: Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field; Or equal job experience. Advanced Excel Required. Financial Budgeting software experience, Workday Adaptive Planning a plus. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in financial analysis, preferably within the nonprofit or community-based sector. Strong analytical skills and proficiency in financial modeling and data analysis on a scale appropriate to an annual operating budget nearing $40 million and capital projects of $100 million or more. Knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, grant management, and fund accounting preferred. Excellent communication skills to convey complex financial information to non-finance stakeholders. Proficiency in financial software and tools, such as Excel and financial modeling software. Commitment to the mission and values of the Seattle Aquarium.
