The Office of External Affairs encompasses three teams. 1) Communications and Marketing; 2) Development and Constituent Relations and 3) Finance and Administration. This includes brand and identity management, digital strategies and web services, editorial and content strategies, visual communications, media and public relations, social media, and integrated marketing campaigns.As the #1 school of public health in the country and the oldest independent, degree-granting school of public health in the world, the Bloomberg School of Public Health offers unparalleled opportunities for mission-driven creative work at the highest levels.We are seeking aSocial Media Associatewho will serve as a multi-platform content producer for the Bloomberg School of Public Health's flagship social media accounts. They manage the day-to-day content calendar for the school's social media accounts, and they stay informed on the best practices with established and emerging social networks. The Associate helps shape the strategic direction of the school's social media presence, and they advise colleagues on how social media can help them achieve their goals.The Associate should be comfortable producing two types of content on a consistent basis for social media.Producing original content for social media accounts, such as original or templated graphics, as well as shortform videos.Adapting pre-existing content (e.g. website articles) into social media posts for multiple platforms, including but not limited to Instagram, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), LinkedIn, and TikTok.Posts produced by the Social Media Associate should fulfill several goals. Generally, they should engage, entertain, and educate online audiences about important public health topics. They should also promote the school, its community and facilities. It is important for the Social Media Associate to establish a good grasp of a broad range of public health concepts so that they are able to produce successful content. It is also important for the Social Media Associate to be reliable, productive, and capable of developing content on a consistent basis. To accomplish these goals, the Social Media Associate should have a keen interest in online trends, and they should be a strong writer who also feels comfortable using design software (e.g. Adobe CS). The Associate will often work with colleagues on the Editorial, Video Production, Graphic Design, and Content Strategy teams. Target audiences for this work will include prospective students, faculty, staff, donors, partners, and other audiences locally, nationally, and internationally who could benefit from public health guidance.The Social Media Associate sits on the Audience and Marketing team in the Office of External Affairs led by the Director of Audience Development, and the Associate may have some supervisory experience for students working with the team. The Social Media Associate will also have opportunities to work in close coordination with the school's admissions teams, academic program managers, and other communications and marketing associates within the school's 10 academic departments. The role will have direct contact with students, faculty and researchers to generate and review editorial content. The Associate will have direct access to the school's digital marketing tools, including Meta Business Suite, Google Analytics and others.Specific Duties & ResponsibilitiesWorking closely with the Associate Director of Audience Development, the Marketing Strategist, and other colleagues.Content Development, Paid Advertising, & AnalyticsProduce content for-and oversee day-to-day posting on-the school's primary social media accounts on Instagram, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), LinkedIn, TikTok, and others. As stated in the general summary above, this work includes adapting pre-existing content for social media as well as developing original content for social media.Develop and manage paid social media campaigns for enrollment marketing and brand awareness, as well as occasional public service announcements.Analyze posts and campaigns, and share findings with colleagues as needed so that they are informed about whether posts are achieving their intended goals, or whether tactics should change to improve their performance.Utilize self-serve dashboards and other analytics tools to develop reports as needed for use in meetings, proposals, etc. and also to occasionally share out best practices to colleagues and stakeholders throughout the School. Support the promotion of the "Public Health on Call" podcast and the School's Global Health NOW newsletter by providing strategic direction to those product teams, advising them on how social media can help them increase subscribers, and occasionally producing or advising on the production of content to publicize those products.Maintain an awareness of developments in the field of public health and major events around the School in order to inform content and the School's social media programming calendar.Work with student groups and the Bloomberg School admissions team to develop social media content representative of Bloomberg School student experience.Maintain a distinct voice and tone for the School of Public Health's primary social media accounts.Conceptualize and refine video projects that can be produced independently by the Associate themselves, or can be produced in collaboration with colleagues on the Communications and Marketing team, and occasionally outside vendors.Brainstorm engaging campaigns to reach diverse audiences including but not limited to: prospective and current students, alumni, donors, faculty, staff, media, affiliated and unaffiliated friends, advocates, sponsors, partners and supporters of the school and public health overall.Partnerships, Collaborations, & Misc. ResponsibilitiesMonitor public mentions of the Bloomberg School across social media, and help manage online communities to the best extent possible with the Director of Audience DevelopmentAssist with management of vendor relationships, including but not limited to social media, video, market research and metrics analysis.Evaluate emerging social media platforms and envision ways the Bloomberg School could use them effectively.Help support client departments throughout the Bloomberg School by advising and guiding them on appropriate social media content and strategies. The Social Media Specialist can convene social media practitioners from around the School for regular meet-ups and workshops as needed.Help maintain and periodically update the Bloomberg School's social media guidelines and work closely with the Director of Audience Development to educate and inform Bloomberg School communications staff about the guidelines.Advise the Dean's Writer on social media best practices and identify opportunities for interactions with peer organizations and schools.
