Patient Care CoordinatorJob SummaryThe Patient Care Coordinator provides exceptional care by acting as a liaison between student dentists and patients in the coordination of their care. The core responsibilities of this role maximize efficiency through facilitating and ensuring the accuracy of the information flow between students, patients, dental staff, and other various departments. The Patient Care Coordinator will work in a fast-paced, team environment. As a member of the School of Dentistry team you are expected to form positive and productive relationships with peers, students and leadership to support the mission, vision, values, and PROMISE standards of the organization. Provides specialized scheduling support for two designated group practices.2. Acts as a liaison between the student dentists and patients in the coordination of their care.3. Oversees the continuity of patient care to enhance the patient care experience.4. Communicates with patients in a confidential, professional manner using empathy, tact, and diplomacy.5. Assists in patient care scheduling needs in collaboration with the student dentists.6. Schedules and registers patients into Epic while proactively filling schedules for patient recalls and follow-up care.7. Reviews billing requirements for patients’ treatment plans and schedules accordingly.8. Manages patient correspondences and administrative letters via email, phone, mail, and MyChart.9. Performs other administrative duties, as required.10. Assists in the orientation, education, and training of dental students, residents, and staff on clinical procedures and protocols.11. Adheres to standards set by OSHA, HIPAA, FERPA, CODA, and other standards.12. Participates and contributes in committees and discussions regarding clinic operations, protocols, and/or quality assurance.13. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities: Demonstrated potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above. Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in stressful or difficult situations. Ability to provide care appropriate to the patient demographic served. Ability to display active listening and verbalize empathy while developing relationships with patients, guests and coworkers. Ability to assess data regarding the patient’s status and provide care, as detailed in the department’s policies and procedures manual. Demonstrated excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and follow-through skills. Ability to be highly motivated and pay attention to detail with a passion to provide excellent customer service in a fast paced and evolving environment. Ability to work efficiently and independently. Demonstrated computer skills and an ability and willingness to learn new applications and software, procedures and processes. Ability to assimilate data from various sources. Demonstrated knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure that patient information is guarded and respected. Ability to navigate a facility with multiple providers and services. Problem SolvingThis position provides independent coordination and decision making for all activities of a specified program. The program outcome often impacts the University as a whole. Acts as a liaison between internal and external constituencies involved in program activities. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient’s status and provide care as described in the department’s policies and procedures manual.Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in a related field plus one year directly related experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. Demonstrated ability to work independently, analyze and make decisions related to program content. Strong coordination and organizational skills required to prioritize conflicting deadlines. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
