Special Education - BRIDGE Teacher (Grades K-5) Mission of NCS Our mission is to provide the children of NCS with new educational opportunities through a rigorous, comprehensive K-8 program that cultivates the intellectual, social and emotional development of each child. Our students, who include high functioning children with autism spectrum disorders, will become independent learners and critical thinkers, will acquire the academic skills that they need to succeed in college preparatory high schools and will exhibit the social and emotional skills that will allow them to reach their full potential. The Opportunity BRIDGE Program – (B ridging the achievement gap, R eaching full potential, I ndividualized instruction, D ynamic curriculum, G rowth mindset, E mbracing differences) The purpose of the BRIDGE program at NCS is to address the unique needs of scholars who require more instructional support in ELA and math than an ICT setting. This program gives scholars a chance to receive the individualized and foundational support they need while still participating in an inclusive program throughout the day. Our program allows students to feel successful academically while also addressing gaps within content knowledge and skills. Students receive instruction within the BRIDGE classroom multiple times throughout the day depending upon which subjects in which they need additional support. Our BRIDGE teachers utilize different programs and modalities to address foundational skills and grade level standards to fill in knowledge gaps, build student access to grade level content, and create an environment where students feel successful. Instruction is planned and developed through data study to ensure that individualized student needs are being met. BRIDGE Teacher Duties: Develop and teach engaging lessons that follow a modified curriculum and provide engaging instruction with a high level of differentiation Drive academic outcomes by analyzing data, reviewing scholar work, and implementing high leverage instructional moves to ensure gains for all scholars Identify the needs of scholars and develop individualized goals through formal and informal assessments Employ various teaching techniques, methods, and principles of different learning styles to enable students to progress at accelerated rates, meet goals, and master concepts and skills Solicit, welcome, and incorporate feedback to improve instructional practice Develop and implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) and behavior plans in consultation with staff and families to ensure success for all scholars Confer, collaborate, and consult with teachers and staff regarding the educational, social, emotional and physical needs and objectives of each student, implementation of the IEPs and special educational services Attend IEP meetings as needed Develop strong relationships with families through frequent communication Assist parents in understanding and supporting educational objectives, learning expectations and behavioral standards Maintain a secure and effective learning environment with impeccable order and clear expectations and routines Participate in state-wide testing, including providing testing accommodations for New York State ELA and Math Exams and facilitating New York State Alternate Assessment Develop and maintain a room environment that is clean, organized and student-centered Reflect on progress as an educator and seek out professional resources to continuously improve one’s practice Educational Background and Work Experience Bachelor’s Degree (required) 3+ years of lead teaching experience with a proven record of facilitating student growth (preferred) Certification in one of the following: New York State Elementary, Special Education, eligible out of state certification, or willingness to work towards your permanent certification (required, certification pathway support offered ) Knowledge and experience working with students with disabilities, specifically ASD (preferred) Salary Range: $73,500-$95,000 + Neighborhood Charter Schools is an equal opportunity employer.
