Job Description The Security, Safety and Emergency Preparedness Manager is responsible for managing the hospital’s Security, Safety and Emergency Preparedness Program and setting the direction for providing and maintaining a secure and safe environment for our employees, patients and visitors. It oversees the development of corporate security, safety and emergency preparedness related policies, programs, and procedures in compliance with OSHA and other federal and state regulations. Interprets regulatory requirements and works with the various committees and department heads to determine methods and procedures to ensure hospital-wide compliance. Serves as Chairperson of the hospital’s Environment of Care/Safety Committee and manages department staff which oversees compliance with the Joint Commission’s standards for Life Safety, Security, Medical Equipment, Hazardous Materials & Waste, Utilities, and Safety. Establishes and implements short-and long-range security and safety-related organizational goals, objectives, policies and operating procedures; monitors effectiveness; effects changes that are required for improvement.The incumbent is also responsible for directing the hospital’s emergency preparedness program. Oversees the development of emergency response plans for all types of incidents by working with every level of the organization. Ensures that we meet the hospital’s external obligations for emergency preparedness, including bioterrorism response, as required by federal and state agencies such as the Homeland Security Department, The Joint Commission, Rhode Island Department of Health and the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency. Serves as the hospital’s representative on the state’s Healthcare Coalition of Rhode Island (HCRI) which is responsible for developing standardized statewide hospital emergency preparedness and response policies and procedures.Oversees security of the physical environment and all peoples associated with the Hospital, including deterring crime against personnel on hospital property, protecting the hospital and its grounds against fire, theft, vandalism, illegal entry and regulating the traffic and parking. The incumbent also manages the Employee Shuttle. Performs other job-related duties as required.BA/BS degree in a law enforcement related program, a related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required, equal to the completion of (4) years of college. Five to seven years of progressive leadership experience in security/law enforcement/military or healthcare experience preferred. Must have demonstrated leadership abilities. Valid Rhode Island driver's license required and schedule flexibility for 24-hour call in case of emergency. Must be proficient in English. Required Education Bachelor's Degree in related field is preferred. A Minimum of 5 years of related experience is required.
