The person in this position coordinates the accommodations offered through Disability Resources, promotes its services to the campus and community, and provides ongoing training to students and the broader campus community regarding the ADAAA. The overall purpose of this role is to assist in providing quality services to students with disabilities to allow them equal access to all university programs and activities.Disability Resources is the unit in the university responsible for coordinating and leading compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act regarding accommodations for students, guests, and visitors with disabilities. The department is responsible for providing all classroom, residence hall, and event accommodations. The university is required by federal legislation, the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA) and Section 504, to provide services specifically outlined as accommodations for students with disabilities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Management of the process for alternate format texts Contact publishers, retrieve booklists from the UST bookstore site, track books ordered and received, track books to be scanned, track books to be purchased, and manage web licenses for the Read&Write software Coordination of Notetaking Accommodations Manage the following two processes, 1) identify, hire, and pay peer notetakers, and 2) administer licenses for the Sonocent audio notetaking software Document Conversion Manage the process to convert digital documents into a format that is accessible for screen reading technology Communicate with faculty to acquire course materials that need conversion Exam coordination Manage the exam accommodation process which involves managing student exam requests, building the daily exam calendar, corresponding with students as needed regarding logistics, printing exams, and contacting instructors as needed Training responsibilities Hire, train and supervise student employees who assist the office with exam proctoring, reading, scribing exams, and delivering exams, alternative textbook conversion and management, and other tasks as assigned Miscellaneous administrative, training, program responsibilities Manage software licenses for accommodations requests Serve as a liaison with the Innovation and Technology Services department Assist with disability awareness campus activities, attend campus information fairs, etc. Other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or the equivalent Three years of clerical/administrative support experience Preferred Qualification A Bachelor's degree Two years of experience working in a post-secondary institution Experience in disability resources Knowledge of federal disability laws including the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, knowledge of disabilities and appropriate postsecondary accommodations Knowledge of assistive technology Ability to work with people with a variety of disabilities; ability to work within strict deadlines for timely responses to disability accommodations requests; ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive student data In light of its commitment to create and maintain a safe learning and working environment, employment with the University of St. Thomas requires consent and successful completion of a background screening.The University of St. Thomas is an Equal Opportunity Employer recblid x4sh7oxp5glmux8ta6cade3aufdt00
