POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Director of Education and Student Services, the Math Teacher plans and provides for appropriate educational experiences for students who have a wide range of learning, behavioral, and emotional disabilities; evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives; creates a flexible program and learning environment that the will allow students to succeed. THE PROGRAM: The Connecticut Junior Republic’s (CJR) mission is to provide care, treatment, education and family support for at-risk, special needs and troubled young people so they can become productive and fulfilled members of their communities. The Connecticut Junior Republic's Cable Academic and Vocational Education Center for Boys (CAVEC) is located on the Litchfield campus and provides regular, special, vocational and alternative education programs, as well as enhancement, transition and related services. RESPONSIBILITIES: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. In-depth understanding of the CT Common Core Curriculum and Project-Based Learning. Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate. Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conducive to learning for all students. Employs and implements a classroom structure and consistency to encourage student responsibility, cooperation and mutual respect consistent with school policies and procedures. Use technology to assist in developing, providing and supporting instruction for special education students Confer with administrators, social workers, and other professionals to implement individualized education programs (IEPs) designed to promote students’ educational, physical, and social/emotional development. Collaborate with vocational instructors to integrate course content and provide support for students experiencing academic difficulties in the vocational area. Provide educational case management services for identified students as needed. Be an active member on an interdisciplinary treatment team. Regular and consistent attendance. Maintain professional competence by participating in staff development activities, curriculum development meetings, and other professional opportunities.
