Government Scientific Source Inc., (GSS) a leading small business distributor of laboratory supplies and equipment to the federal government, is seeking a well-rounded, well-versed, enthusiastic Field Sales Representative, that enjoys rising to the challenge of using skilled communication and negotiation tactics to generate new business leads and maximize the profit of sales. To be successful in this position, the Field Sales Representative must be able to demonstrate superior customer service skills that will lead to continual meeting and/or exceeding sales targets.Summary: The Field Sales Representative is responsible for sales of research products and services within a defined set of key federal government accounts within the Washington D.C Metro area. The representative will serve customers engaged in life science and molecular biology, biomedical, chemistry and chemical analysis, and other fields of research. The representative will maintain effective customer relations, develop opportunities for growth within existing customer bases, and assure market penetration and profitability while achieving sales and profit forecasts.Essential Functions: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Develop and maintain effective customer relations with laboratory managers, principal investigators, postdocs, lab techs, and end-users within assigned territory. Utilize resources to meet customer needs and work effectively with an internal cross-functional team as well as external resources. Develop and execute sales strategies and plans to expand business within the assigned territory. Maintain a pipeline of opportunities to meet or exceed sales objectives for supplies/consumables, equipment, instrumentation, and chemicals/reagents. Perform sale calls and supplier relations with all customers and potential customers within assigned territory. Attend internal and external developed products and trade shows. Research competitors and industry activities while keeping informed of new products, services, and other general information of interest to customers. Incorporating found data into a business plan to introduce new products and services. Maintain accurate reporting, records, and files as necessary for proper management of the territory. Inform the cross-functional team of opportunities via CRM, phone, and in-person. Communicate with supervisor and Quality Assurance department for any customer issues or potential problems. Inform customers of supply and price trends as well as support just-in-time and other inventory-based solutions. Perform other tasks as assigned. Positively represent GSS at all times throughout customer locations.Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in a Science-related field preferred. H5+ years of sales experience, preferably in research laboratory industry or lab experience. Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication and presentation skills. Proficiency in MS Office programs, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software. Experience in Dynamics NAV, Oracle Cloud, and Oracle CRM is a plus. Possess excellent organizational skills to multi-task while meeting deadlines. Able and willing to travel to customers’ locations (4 days per week in the field and 1 day per week in the office). Strong industry, laboratory, and science background preferred.Position Type This is a full-time position.Work Authorization: Must be eligible to work in the United States.Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
