No Position Responsibilities Internal Posting? Position Summary This position works with a team of other student services professionals and administration to develop and administer academic support and advising programs as well as implement relevant policies for the College of Law. The Student Services Administrator, in collaboration with College faculty, staff, and Associate Deans, designs, implements, and promotes activities that support all College of Law students in achieving their full academic and professional potential through developing strong academic skills, bar preparation, and advising programs, as well as through individualized academic counseling and advising. The Student Services Administrator will teach academic skills courses, specifically Academic Skills Lab 1 (LAW817) & 2 (LAW901). Responsibilities Job Duty Function Assist in developing and promoting an academic success program by: Job Duties/Responsibilities • Working with others to develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive Academic Support program to assure each student a satisfactory opportunity to complete the law program, graduate, pass a bar examination, and become a member of the legal profession.• Analyzing the needs, interests, and limitations of students in order to conduct appropriate individualized and confidential academic counseling and coaching.• Advising at-risk and probation student populations on effective study and time management skills and developing strategies for students to reach their academic potential. Responsibilities Job Duty Function Help organize and teach academic skills courses for first year law students during orientation and the academic year by: Job Duties/Responsibilities • Working with others at the College to develop, organize, administer, and teach an orientation course under the supervision of the Associate Dean for Students. Duties require identifying teaching objectives, soliciting faculty participation, coordinating presentations, teaching workshops, organizing classroom activities, and conducting post-program assessment and intervention.• Developing course objectives, selecting materials, organizing, and teaching a one-credit academic skills course each fall semester and a two-credit academic skills course in the spring semester. Responsibilities Job Duty Function Improve advising and curricular resources by: Job Duties/Responsibilities • Continually improving College advising and curricular offerings by identifying weaknesses, proposing workable solutions in collaboration with faculty, staff, and students; co-editing and revising the Catalog & Law Student Handbook; and drafting and editing advising documents and course descriptions.• Coordinating with individual faculty, emphasis advisors, the College Curriculum Committee, and the University Curriculum Committee to continually help in managing the development of new courses and also to implement already existing curriculum requirements. Responsibilities Job Duty Function Other duties as assigned: Job Duties/Responsibilities • May include assisting students with matters handled by the University, such as helping law students by coordinating withdrawals and leaves of absence, assisting students in obtaining emergency loans, and presenting academic and administrative petitions. Position Qualifications Required Qualifications • J.D. from an ABA -accredited law school.• A minimum of 3 years experience as a practicing attorney or in law student support at a higher education institution.• Successful completion of the bar exam in any state at the time of application. Preferred Qualifications • Familiarity with and interest in contributing to scholarship on law school and bar exam success.• Ability to demonstrate self-direction, creativity and logical problem solving skills on a consistent basis.• Outstanding record of academic and/or professional achievement.• Desire to create an academic environment that respects, includes, and enhances diversity and inclusion.• Teaching and/or tutoring experience in higher education, preferably law.• Three or more years of experience in student affairs, academic success, or related job duties.• Experience working with students or others in crisis with a calm and respectful demeanor, and subsequently make well-reasoned determinations of next steps.
