The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is currently seeking its next Chief of Police. Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance and serving on the Vice Chancellor's Leadership Team, the Chief of Police will serve a vital role in the safety, security and success of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and to lead UPD to the next level of excellence.Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in a related discipline with ten years' experience in command level supervisory law enforcement positions with rank of captain or above. Comprehensive understanding of principles and practices of law enforcement, emergency operations, and crime prevention, with a thorough knowledge of local, State and Federal laws including CLERY and Title IX. Proven ability to lead, develop, and support staff to achieve excellence through increased training, responsibility, productivity, and morale. Experience cultivating and maintaining collaborative relationships with a variety of constituents, as well as mutual aid relationships with law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services agencies who provide support to campus locations. Strong interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills. Experience in responsible budget management and resource allocation. Applicant must be able to meet the minimum requirements of a law enforcement officer in the State of Nebraska either through current good standing, reciprocity, or reactivation of their law enforcement certification.Upon employment, applicant must meet or complete State of Nebraska mandated certification courses as required by statute to be certified as a law enforcement officer and must also have completed state mandated law enforcement supervisory and management course.Master's degree preferred, as well as law enforcement experience at a college or university; knowledge of public safety functions, operations and current issues; experience leading successful community oriented policing initiatives; and the ability to promote and maintain a productive and collaborative environment with diverse constituencies both internal and external to the department and University.Requisition F_200012As an EO/AA employer, qualified applicants are considered for employment without regard to race, color, ethnicity, national origin, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, disability, age, genetic information, veteran status, marital status, and/or political affiliation.
