Starting Salary : Classification Level 23 ($34,084 - $42,606) Salary Potential : Classification Level 24 (up to $61,360)Status: Full Time Temporary (1 year & 1-day appointment. Potential of becomingpermanent) Target Start Date : February 2020The Probation Services Technician provides technical, administrative, and clerical support toprobation officers and officer assistants in a wide range of areas, including assisting withconducting investigations, compiling criminal histories, coordinating with collateral agencies,and performing other similar duties, as assigned. While this position is listed as a temporary fulltime, it has the potential to become a permanent full-time position. The Probation ServicesTechnician reports to the Team Leader. Incumbent should be a highly organized self-starter withthe ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks and deadlines for numerous people within afast-paced working environment. Must be able to handle interruptions and changing deadlinesand remain on track to complete assignments. The ability to maintain confidentiality isimperative. Representative Duties: A Probation Services Technician performs duties and responsibilitiessuch as, but not limited to the following:1. Screens telephone calls and visitors. Answers routine questions, provides assistance asauthorized and refers persons to officers or to appropriate agencies based on theknowledge of officers’ activities and office operations. Routine copying, mailing,scanning and filing will be required.2. Conduct case file reviews and advise officers and officer assistants of matters needingtheir attention. Make chronological entries in supervision case records. Conduct recordsresearch and retrieval via telephone or mail to obtain required documentation. Set up newsupervision case records and perform various file management tasks. Assist officers inresponding to collateral requests for information. Assemble and process information tothe Sentencing Commission. Keep various logs and records up to date.3. Observe and conduct same sex drug testing on persons under supervision in a controlledenvironment. In accordance with local and national policy, follows chain of custodyprotocol when reporting drug testing results. Sends specimens to national contractlaboratory for confirmation as instructed.4. Under the direction of an officer, the incumbent will review and monitor monthly reportsand document changes in the chronological entries as necessary.5. Format, type, edit, and finalize reports and correspondence from rough drafts using wordprocessing equipment. This may include, but is not limited to, documents such aspresentence investigation reports, supervision case plans and reviews, and memoranda orreports to the court.6. Complete various standard forms for submission to the court and legal counsel usinginformation provided by officers, including petitions, orders to the court, and similardocuments.7. Operate the local/state law enforcement information retrieval system and Criminal JusticeInformation System (CJIS) terminals to obtain criminal history information and route theinformation to appropriate recipients. Obtain fingerprint and credit checks, verificationsof employment and education, and send FBI flash notices. Assist with photographingdefendants/offenders and uploads into an automated case management tracking system.8. Use of various programs/databases, including Accurint, ATLAS, CHAIRS, e-Designate,e-Justice, BOP Red Flag report, archive requests, CM/ECF, LENS and RRC.9. Open, close, and update information into computerized records, including the ProbationAutomated Case Tracking Systems (PACTS). Research information from case recordsand enter into system as appropriate. Screen forms completed by officers and officerassistants and request corrections as needed. Retrieve information from databases andgenerate periodic reports.10. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Experience and Education Requirements :HS Diploma with a minimum of two years of generalized office experience. Education above thehigh school level from an accredited institution is preferred. Applicants should have strongverbal and written communication skills; the ability to analyze work processes and problemsolving skills. Experience using automated systems and customer service skills a plus. Computerknowledge in a Microsoft Windows environment and Word experience is preferred. Conditions of Employment: Applicants must be United States citizens or eligible to work in the United States. The individualbeing selected for this position will be required to submit to a security background check whichincludes fingerprinting. All appointments are provisional upon a favorable suitabilitydetermination. Employees are required to adhere to the Code of Conduct for Judicial Employees,which is available to applicants upon request. Employees of the United States District Court areExcepted Service Appointments. Excepted Appointments are “at will” and can be terminatedwith or without cause by the court. Electronic direct deposit of salary payments is mandatory.
