Job Title: Director of Huffington LibraryDepartment: Huffington LibraryReports To: Assistant Head of SchoolsClassification: Exempt; 12 Month StaffStart Date: July or August 2020 JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Huffington Library supports the goals and mission of the Culver Academies through envisioning, articulating and overseeing the execution of the department's mission. The current Huffington Library mission is to provide access to a wealth of resources (connecting users to members of the community, to materials, and to library spaces) through collaboration, instruction and support by a caring, professional, knowledgeable and innovative staff. The Huffington Library is a key hub for collaborative learning, research, and academics. RESPONSIBILITIES To serve as a role model by modeling Culver's mission centered in leadership and character, being a model colleague, and growing professional through realized goals.To promote, connect, and represent Huffington Library space, support, and programming throughout the Culver community.To coach and manage a caring, professional, knowledgeable and innovative staff of library professionals.To active participate in collaborative, research-based programs and serve as a key member of the Culver HONORS program.To participate in and support broader school initiatives and plans, curriculum development and assessment, use of resources, facilities, and activities.To collaborate with the Assistant Head of Schools in connecting the Huffington Library with the academic and leadership experiences.To support and lead collective decision-making to develop a rich collection of resources and materials for student, faculty and staff learning.To manage the Huffington Library budgets in cooperation with the business manager.To manage the maintenance of the physical space, coordinating and collaborating with other departments sharing space in the Huffington Library.To communicate effectively with confidentiality at various levels with members throughout the community including library colleagues, members of the Culver faculty, staff colleagues, administration, and alumni.To perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School, including serving students outside the library in support of the Culver mission. Educator : Experience in teaching and learning environments. Relationship Builder: Displays necessary interpersonal skills necessary to operate a learning community hub. The library director champions inter-departmental initiatives and resource-sharing. Strong Leader: Director is committed to the values of the Mission of the Culver Educational Foundation and nurtures, inspires and motivates colleagues throughout the community through personal example, curiosity, humility and creativity. Collaborative Manager: Experience in leading teams as a responsive and active listener; expertise in supporting, challenging and guiding members of the team. Forward-Thinking Planner: Demonstrated ability to lead effective meetings as well as innovative in anticipating 21st Century challenges and welcomes the opportunity to guide library innovations and/or renovations in the next decade. QUALIFICATIONS A Master's Degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or Library Science (MLS) from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited school. Five years of progressively responsible library administration experience, including three years in a supervisory capacity.
