General Information: Job title: CMA/LPN Location: UW Health Specialty Clinic - Mauston, WI Schedule: Full-time, 80 hours per pay period; Monday-Friday Weekend rotation: No weekends Holiday rotation: Paid holidays Position Summary: CMA - To perform healthcare services to patients under the direction and responsible supervision of a physician. LPN - Works under the direction of a qualified professional nurse. Participates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care, within the objectives, standards, and policies of the department and within the parameters of his or her preparation. Cooperates with the members of the nursing and medical staffs and other hospital departments. Position Responsibilities: CMA Responsibilities Takes medical history/vital signs and records results Under direction of Medical Provider, administers or orders diagnostic tests such as X rays, electrocardiograms, and blood work Performs therapeutic procedures, such as immunizations, injections and wound care per established protocols Exercises professional judgment regarding consultation with supervising physicians concerning appropriate treatment Order appropriate medical supplies Maintains records of treatment and results Provides general health education regarding matters such as proper diet, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance Assists physician, as required, for treatment and procedures Monitor patient flow to assure best use of provider's time Perform other duties as required/needed LPN Responsibilities Provides direct and individualized nursing care to an assigned group of patients based on the application of scientific principles, under the supervision of a registered professional nurse. Assists in preoperative, postoperative, and relevant health teaching for patient and family. Shares responsibility for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care in the clinic setting. Participates in team conferences, sharing knowledge, information, and ideas among team members. Prepares, administers, and records medications in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed practical nurse. Performs more-complex nursing activities as competence increases. Participates in emergency care. Communicates frequently with the team leader regarding patients' physical and mental conditions. Records information concisely, accurately, and completely. Identifies and utilizes appropriate channels of communication. Constructively participates in appropriate committees within the nursing department and/or the hospital. Position Requirements: CMA Required Skills Ability to function independently, and as part of a team Empathy for the needs of patients Effective oral and written communication skills Ability to communicate through spoken and written English Ability to prioritize and multitask Ability to apply sound judgment with clinical skills for optimal patient care Demonstrates flexibility by accepting and supporting changes in work assignments as related to department and patient needs Strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills Basic computer skills Proficient in working with all ages and patient populations Knowledge of appropriate equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective patient outcomes BLS Certification within 6 months of hire and maintain certification LPN Required Skills Minimum Education Graduate of an accredited LPN program. Minimum Work Experience Minimum one year prior experience in inpatient medical surgical or hospital acute care setting preferred. Required Skills Excellent customer service skills. Self-directing. Able to work with little direct supervision. Empathy for the needs of patients. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate through spoken and written English. Treats patients and others with courtesy and respect, presenting a positive public image. Works well as a team member. Ensures confidentiality and security of patients' medical information.
