General Purpose: 1/2018 Responsible for ensuring that all rules, regulations, policies, and instructions pertaining to the operation and maintenance of the swimming pool is carried out by all employees under their supervision. Ensures quality customer service is provided and handles inquiries from the general public. Exercises direct supervision over assigned staff. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Oversees all lifeguard operations, including but not limited to: lifeguard awareness, lifeguard conduct, aquatic operation and in-service training. Evaluates existing situations, and makes decisions concerning hazardous weather conditions which may arise ensuring that the pool is properly staffed at all times. Explains and enforces basic pool rules and sets a positive example for patrons. Maintains and enforces pool safety. Must be able to handle paperwork, set up facility, and to perform CPR/First Aid. Provides information regarding facility use and hours of operation. Plans and develops of pool activities. Assists with maintenance of the city's swimming pool(s); monitors and maintains pool filtration system; monitors pool water chemistry through testing of water samples; adjusts chemistry as needed to maintain standards. Oversees and assists in general maintenance and clean-up of activities/facilities. Maintains property of the City of Copperas Cove pool facility. Requires staff to submit reports on accidents, damage to facilities and equipment, problems among staff, and complaints from facility users. Ensures reports thoroughly completed and forwarded to the Recreation Aquatics Coordinator. Supervises cashiers, including but not limited to: management of accepting fees, accounting for fees received, and turning in daily deposits. Performs other duties as assigned. Desired Minimum Qualifications: Previous experience as a lifeguard, water safety instructor, or any other previous aquatics experience preferred. Previous supervisory or management experience preferred. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License by date of hire. Preferred to have an American Red Cross Lifeguard certification (to include first aid, CPR, and AED). Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and customers. Have the knowledge/skills to give swimming instructions and assists in all swimming programs as directed. Ability to be responsible for keeping the building and grounds in a safe, clean, and sanitary condition. Ability to clean the swimming pool, deck, scum gutters, dressing rooms, showers, entrance to pool, and other areas as required. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance. Must be able to work between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. including weekends. Selection Guidelines: Formal applications, rating of education and experience; oral interview and reference check; job related tests may be required. Must pass physical demands for the department. Tools and Equipment Used : A wet/dry vacuum, cash register, phone, copy/fax machine. Physical Demands: Physical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying up to 75 pounds; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate chlorinating machines, perform first aid procedures. Subject to sitting, standing, reaching, walking, twisting, and kneeling to perform the essential functions.
