Department: Butte, MT Job Type: Fulltime Reports to: Lab Manager Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday 8-5 unless needed Amount of Travel Required: 20% - 50% Position Summary: Pioneer Technical Services, Inc. is currently recruiting for a Civil Engineering Technician/Engineer Lab Technician in its Geotechnical and Materials Testing Laboratory located in Butte, MT. The position will generally be 40 hours per week on average with some additional hours on an as-needed basis during busy periods. Occasional travel to a project sites will also be required for short periods of time. This position will involve field inspection services and geotechnical materials testing in the laboratory. Field Inspection services include field density testing using a nuclear density gauge, fresh grout and concrete sampling, shotcrete testing and coring. Laboratory testing will include performing Atterbergs, proctors, sieve analysis and numerous other geotechnical soils testing. Other duties will include data management, equipment maintenance, sample organization. Project experience in general construction, field density testing, concrete testing, soil sampling, and materials testing as well as experience with Microsoft Word and Excel programs is preferred but not required. Pioneer will provide on the job training to perform field testing and laboratory testing tasks. Candidate must have a valid Class D driver's license. Essential Functions Communicate with Contractor or Site Supervisor regarding testing results and any failing tests or problems. Confer with supervisor to determine project details such as plan preparation, acceptance testing, and evaluation of field conditions. Inspect project site and evaluate contractor work to detect deficiencies and ensure conformance to design specifications and applicable codes. Prepare daily field inspection reports that document project activities and data. Conduct materials testing and analysis using provided tools and equipment. Basic Computer Skills. Skills and Abilities Education: High School Diploma. College education preferred, but not required. Field of Study: Civil/Environmental Engineering, Soil Science, or related/equivalent education or experience. Computer Skills: Must be able to complete basic computer tasks that include Excel, Microsoft Word.
