On-Call Food Services Assistant - Head Start

The Food Service Assistant works with Teachers and Teacher Assistants to provide support with food service, food delivery, and cleaning. This is an on-call position, working up to 19 hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION Registration with the Central Background Registry of the Child Care Division. Some sites may require valid driver license and insured vehicle available for use on the job, and satisfactory drive record for the past three years. Must obtain First Aid/CPR certification and Food Handler's card. This position is subject to MWVCAA's Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccination Policy. **ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Prepares and serves snacks and lunches provided by contracted suppliers or agency Site Cooks. Assists children in preparing and serving snacks and lunches, allowing children to participate as much as possible. Helps maintain a clean, sanitary, safe, and orderly classroom, site, and grounds appropriate to young children, using professional level housekeeping practices. Is positive when working with children; talking, playing, laughing and singing. Participates in children's activities when appropriate. Spontaneous and flexible in meeting children's individual needs, encouraging children to verbalize their own feelings and ideas. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Use of kitchen equipment including, but not limited to range, oven, steamer, dishwasher, and various kitchen utensils; occasionally required to operate a motor vehicle. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Employee will be standing for the majority of the workday. WORK ENVIRONMENT Indoor work environment with frequent interruptions and demands. Variable and flexible work hours. Work environment is occasionally warm, humid and temperatures vary (particularly in/near refrigerators and freezers and appliances). Potential risk of exposure to COVID-19 and other conditions. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as face coverings may be required. Enrollment in the Central Background Registry is beneficial if you are even considering working with children in the State of Oregon, since it will be required before you can start a position.
