JOB SUMMARY: Center for Ultrastructural Research (CURE) at the Agricultural Research Station, FVSU, is searching for a full time, regular lab manager. This is an exciting opportunity to get to grips with some of our cutting-edge techniques and innovative research using scanning and transmission electron microscope. Candidate for this position will assist faculty members in their ongoing microscopy research. This includes knowledge of running various equipment, troubleshooting minor problems, maintain service contracts, and assist graduate students in their thesis research. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Electron microscopy and image analysis (SEM, TEM) Assist in electron microscopy lab: Maintaining requests for SEM workflow by faculty, graduate students, and other clients Help maintain laboratory equipment and reagents in good and current condition Help in processing of the samples (fixation, dehydration, CPD, coating, and ultramicrotomy) Use computer applications for imaging and data storage Other duties as assigned Managerial responsibilities: Maintaining service contracts, lab inventory and ordering Maintaining a safe and well maintained laboratory in compliance with EH&S regulations Effective data trending, document control, and technical bench skills Strong problem-solving, training, team building, and mentoring abilities Excellent written and verbal communication QUALIFICATIONS: The successful applicant must have a degree in a biological or associated scientific subject and at least 2-3 years of experience; A combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted The candidate must also be reliable, organized and possess strong interpersonal WORKING CONDITIONS: Travel required Traveling for training, and collaborative research (5-10%) Working outdoors Field and greenhouse research pertaining to ongoing research projects (5%) PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical requirements of the job relates to lab experiments.
