General Summary: The Crisis Specialist conducts unscheduled crisis intervention activities for the purpose of resolving a crisis situation that requires immediate attention. The Crisis Specialist provides culturally competent and trauma-informed services to all consumers in need of crisis intervention, incorporating LifeWays' mission, vision and values into the decision-making process. Essential Functions: Team: Receives and responds to calls from the crisis line (or other means of request) and coordinates activities of others to ensure response time within guidelines. Conducts crisis/risk assessments and determines risks and chooses appropriate intervention to address and reduce the risk. Documents assessment of crisis, intervention and follow up. Develops safety plans and ensures warm hand offs of consumers to appropriate providers/services. Promotes the safety and emotional stability of individuals with mental illness or emotional crises. Uses clinical skills to minimize further deterioration of individuals, couples, families in crisis. Assists individuals in developing and/or enhancing better coping skills and a natural support system. Assists individuals in crisis to obtain appropriate care, treatment, and follow up care. Specific: Reviews social determinants of health to identify any barriers to obtaining services. Maintains resources and provide general education about mental health conditions/behaviors and helps empower consumers to deal with these conditions effectively. Topics may include but are not limited to: Trauma, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Depression, Suicide prevention. Identifies all necessary referrals and linkages to medically necessary behavioral health services and supports and facilitates referrals and access to those services. With consent of consumer/guardian, works with school, primary care physician, or other services to collaborate and problem solve issues as applicable. Assists consumer with identifying a natural support system, including friends, family, faith community, cultural communities and self-help groups. Encourages services in the least intensive or restrictive setting that is clinically appropriate to meet the individual's needs. Maintains contact with all staff/providers providing services for the purpose of monitoring and care coordination. Provides follow up services after the resolution of the crisis minimally at 7, 30, 60, 90 days after the crisis has been resolved. General: Informs the community of services available by LifeWays' Mobile Crisis Team. Performs all duties as assigned to ensure the Crisis Team runs efficiently and effectively. Performs duties in a variety of settings to include but not limited to: the office, community locations, emergency departments, schools, consumer homes, and jails. Works a non-traditional schedule which may include evenings, weekends and/or holidays. Provides on-call services, as needed or assigned. Maintain regular and predictable attendance. Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Social Work. At least one years' experience in working with Children if performing duties within Intensive Crisis Stabilization Services (ICSS). Crisis Specialist I: Bachelor's degree. Limited Licensed Bachelors Social Worker (LLBSW). Crisis Specialist II: Bachelor's degree. Fully Licensed Bachelors Social Worker (LBSW). Crisis Specialist III: Bachelor's degree. Fully Licensed Bachelors Social Worker (LBSW) and is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) or is a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC). Note: To work with children must meet qualifications as a CMHP per the MDHHS provider guidelines. Preferred Education: Bachelor's in Social Work with LBSW licensure with the State of Michigan. Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC).
