Stainless Steel Welder Fitter

Job Summary: We are looking to add an experienced Stainless Steel Welder Fitter to the team! The Welder Fitter will lay out, fit, and fabricate metal components to assemble structural and misc. metals, such as beams, columns, stairs railings etc. Will be required to layout enough to keep several welders busy. Must be very strong at reading drawings and transferring that information to the layout table. Supervisory Responsibilities: none Duties/Responsibilities: Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and ruler. Tack-welds or welds components and assemblies, using electric, gas, arc, or other welding equipment. Cuts workpiece, using powered saws, hand shears, or chipping knife. Inspects grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometer, caliper, and precision measuring instruments. Removes rough spots from workpiece, using portable grinder, hand file, or scraper. Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions. Heats, forms, and dresses metal parts, using hand tools, torch, or arc welding equipment. Ignites torch and adjusts valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc. Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations. Develops templates and other work aids to hold and align parts. Determines required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques. Required Skills/Abilities: Thorough understanding of machines and tools used in welding including designs, uses, maintenance and repair. Ability to read and interpret blueprints. Excellent understanding of design techniques, principles, and tools necessary for the precise production of technical plans, drawings, models and blueprints. Basic ability to read and listen to assignments given in a variety of forms. Fundamental understanding of mathematics as related to welding assignments. Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings. Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED certificate Current welding certifications (Recently expired certifications may be acceptable contingent upon the ability to successfully requalify prior to employment.) Skill and experience with MIG welding and TIG welding preferred. The ideal candidate will have a background in steel manufacturing or metal fabrication. Physical Requirements: Must be able to weld components that are vertical, flat, or overhead. Ability to work in a standing position for extended hours. Comfortable with working on elevated surfaces. Resilient to working in adverse climatic conditions. Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work. Must be able to see details at close range. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times. Must be able to traverse facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.
