Under the direction of the Medical Services Supervisor, the Medical Assistant provides medical support to consumers receiving services through the Medical Services department. This position is responsible for providing timely and clinically appropriate interventions, assessment, referrals, and assistance with health and medication issues that adhere to the standards of LifeWays, Department of Community Health, Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), and within the scope of practice. This position requires the ability to foster positive engagement with consumers that will assist them on their path to recovery. The Medical Assistant will work within the team to ensure adequate coverage of duties to meet consumer needs in both counties. Essential Functions: Perform vital signs and gather other patient information, per protocols, for every consumer seen in the clinic and record appropriately in the EMR. Coordinate and communicates clinical decision making with consumers, providers and primary care physicians to assure care is provided in a recovery-oriented, integrated fashion. Provides, assessment, and interventions to consumers to correct medication or integrated health difficulties. Provides education to consumers regarding medication compliance, side effects, and health care issues. Provides assistance to physician and nurses in completing tasks such as locating lab results and medical records, contacting pharmacies for additional medication related information, and faxing paperwork as requested. Assists telemedicine physicians with patient management. Assessing daily LEO email and correspondence from the psychiatrist and the RN's Update the medical record accurately in LEO and reconciling that medications are correct for the consumer Assist with Front office coverage /reception area as needed, answering telephones and assisting consumers Assist in the file room with the clinical record for coordination of care to primary care providers. Responsible for adherence to all Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) standards. Education/Certification/Licensure: High School Diploma or equivalent, required. Medical Assistant Certification from Accredited program for the State of Michigan, required. CPI non-violent Crisis Intervention training, upon hire. Mental Health Frist Aid Training, upon hire Must have reliable transportation* * LifeWays vehicles are provided to employees for the purpose of transporting consumers; employees must possess a valid MI motor vehicle operator's license and verification of an acceptable driving record. Personal vehicles may be used for company business when drivers meet the following; valid MI motor vehicle operator's license and proof of personal vehicle insurance in accordance to guideline.
