Motor Vehicle Mechanic, Base Shop Location: Fort Riley, KS Regular Full-Time Essential Responsibilities: The Motor Vehicle Mechanic repairs, rebuilds, or overhauls major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, trucks and other "light" equipment. The Motor Vehicle Mechanic's work involves most of the following: diagnosing the source of trouble and determining the extent of repairs required; replacing worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts; grinding and adjusting valves; rebuilding carburetors; overhauling transmissions; and repairing fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems. In general, the work of the Motor Vehicle Mechanic requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent. Performs all other position related duties as assigned or requested. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Knowledge of U.S. Army maintenance processes and logistics information systems. Strong customer service skills. Experience with filing records, reporting on use of materials, and monitoring customer requests. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods throughout the day. Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders. Must be able to type using a standard keyboard to communicate through e-mail and various software applications. Must be able to lift/push/pull minimum of 30 pounds. Must be able to work in a shop where the environment is drafty, noisy, and dirty. May be exposed to extreme noise from operating equipment.
