We are seeking an individual with culinary creativity and professional kitchen experience to support our Head Chef. The successful candidate will have a hands-on work ethic, energy, passion, creativity, and the desire to learn, grow and contribute. Our menu features sourdough pizzas, quality pub fare in addition to rotating seasonal dishes. We make everything in house from scratch with the best ingredients possible. We offer vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options for customers with specific dietary needs. To ensure success in your role as Junior Sous Chef, you should be an excellent communicator with great organizational skills and impeccable time management. You should be self-motivated and have the ability to lead and mentor the rest of the kitchen team. Job Responsibilities: Work with the Head Chef and Talula's in the preparation and design of all food menus. Produce high quality plates both design and taste wise. Ensure that the kitchen operates in a timely way that meets our quality standards. Fill in for the Head Chef in planning and directing food preparation when necessary. Resourcefully solve any issues that arise and seize control of any problematic situation, including but not limited to cleanliness and sanitation. Participate in kitchen employee interviews and disciplinary conversations with kitchen staff. Manage and train kitchen staff, establish working schedules and assess employee performance. Order supplies to stock inventory appropriately. Comply with and enforce sanitation regulations and safety standards. Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers. Work 45+ hours/week. Be prepared to work additional shifts during times of transition, peak season and vacation Act as an ambassador and representative in the community. Attend manager meetings. Work collaboratively as part of a management team interested in both company-wide and personal growth. Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand/walk for 9 to 10+ hours; bend, push, pull; lift up to 50lbs Frequently stands, walks, talks and hears, taste or smell; uses hands, reaches with hands and arms; occasionally sits, climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crawls, crouches Occasionally works in extreme heat, wet or humid conditions Noise level is moderate Qualifications & Competencies: Respectful, positive, team-oriented attitude with a problem solving mindset Ability to motivate kitchen team to efficient work pace and high quality output Committed to maintaining and improving product quality, work pace and team morale over time In-depth knowledge of kitchen health and safety regulations. Ability to work well in a stressful, physically demanding, and fast-paced environment. Excellent problem-solving and conflict management abilities. Outstanding communication and organizational skills. Able to foster and develop an inclusive team where everyone's ideas and voices are respected. A minimum of one year experience in a similar role. English & Spanish language proficiency is preferred Comfortable working with both naturally leavened and yeasted doughs (huge plus!) Passionate about baking with whole grain flours
