Nestled within the heart of Center City Philadelphia, Friends Select School is excited to hire a second grade educator who is passionate about using the City and its wealth of resources to enhance the learning of their students. We are looking for a new colleague who is a strong collaborator with a growth mindset, someone who can join us in our continual refinement of the art of teaching and partner with us to further enact our mission as a Quaker school. Ideal candidates for this positions have a graduate degree in education or a related field 3-5 years of teaching experience at the second grade level (or a proximate grade) strong pedagogical skills and knowledge of effective teaching practices excellent verbal and written communication skills experience collaborating with colleagues to develop an integrated social studies curriculum a commitment to social justice and anti-racist education Friends Select is looking for someone who, in addition to excelling in their core role of teaching reading, writing, social studies, gender and sexuality, and math, will be excited to: Collaborate with colleagues within their grade cohort, but also with the rest of the division and the FSS community as a whole, to develop engaging curriculum that extends beyond the walls of their classroom and into the city Build relationships with students, parents, and other colleagues through proactive communication and engagement Support the overall ethos of Friends Select by being present outside of the classroom, through things like committee work and school events We welcome candidates whose teaching experience has not happened within an independent school. Candidates who are from diverse backgrounds and/or who have experience in cultural competency work are strongly encouraged to apply.
