Economics Intern Role Type: Part-time, temporary. Anticipated 20-30 hours per week for 3 -6 months Pay rate: $20 per hour Job Overview: Overview : DISCUS seeks a part-time intern interested in gaining practical experience in data collection and aggregation to assist DISCUS in preparing a unique monthly report for DISCUS members and non-members. The successful candidate will be someone who has a strong attention to detail and a desire to help develop a new and efficient system of monthly data collection from various sources that can be easily handed over to the next intern to manage down the road. Responsibilities & Duties: Develop efficient process for collecting monthly excise tax collection data on distilled spirits, wine and beer from 50 states and DC to prepare monthly Apparent Consumption Report (ACR) for DISCUS members. Intern will work directly with Director of Economic Studies. Tasks will include: Contacting regulatory agencies in 33 license states and DC for excise tax collections data on spirits, beer, and wine sales. Converting data to common measurement so that it can be aggregated easily. Incorporating the same data points for 17 control states from NABCA. Developing report template to include data for all 50 states and DC that can be easily replicated each month. Developing file system for historical data of ACR reports for easy access by DISCUS members.
