The Controller oversees and manages all the finance and accounting functions for nine traffic control offices located in four states. The Controller is responsible for the accuracy of financial statements and documents following GAAP principles, including identifying and preventing discrepancies. The position requires a detail oriented, organized professional who has the ability to manage a team, is reliable, and can work collaboratively with the team as well as autonomously. This is an in-house position located in Chippewa Township, Pennsylvania. The Controller reports directly to the President. Responsibilities Supervise all functions of the Accounting Department, and current staff of six employees. Manage and coordinate daily accounting functions, including but not limited to multiple state sales tax reporting, financial reporting, fixed assets, Payroll, Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable, and assisting with collections of past due accounts. Manage the accumulation and consolidation process of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of individual offices and consolidated business results. Prepare P & L Reports for each office. File State Annual Reports and various other reports as required. Review and validate monthly union reporting and remittance information. Comply with all federal, state, and local regulations regarding finances, tax filings, and reporting including compliance with all additional legal and regulatory requirements, and compliance with internal guidelines. Participate in internal and external audits, providing answers and additional documentation when necessary. Manage monthly, and quarterly general ledger closing and reconciliation process, and year-end closing process. Continually assesses all accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new business processes while maintaining established procedures and strengthening internal controls. Prepare vendor payments for Accounts Payable staff to process. Make payments and accounting entries to the necessary Worker's Compensation accounts. Provide secondary approval on bank website for vendor ACH payments. Initiate wire transfers as needed. Order and maintain a sufficient inventory of blank checks. Monitor all bank accounts on bank website daily. Monitor usage of company credit cards and make payments as needed. Assist staff with bank reconciliation as needed. Electronically send all company QuickBooks files to CPA after year-end close. Provide Notary services. Hold weekly Accounting Department Staff meetings. Complete special projects as needed by the President. Additional responsibilities as assigned. Experience and Skills Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. A CPA and master's degree is preferred, however not required. Minimum 5-7 years of related financial experience with an increasing amount of responsibility. Minimum 2-4 years of supervisory experience required. Proficient in QuickBooks, Microsoft Office (including Excel and Word), and other accounting software. Strong communication, problem solving, and analytical skills. Ability to work independently, in a fast-paced environment. Capable of identifying and completing critical tasks independently and with a sense of urgency.
