We embrace the challenge of public education - to develop every student's resolve to reach his or her full potential regardless of the odds. EPIC Academy serves one of the most challenged student demographics in Chicago: 96% Free/reduced lunch, 25% Students with IEPs, 15% English Language Learners, with the average 9th grader entering on the 4th-grade academic level. The prevailing area expectation is to graduate high school and get a job. We view these "obstacles" as opportunities to build on our students' assets. EPIC Academy has 3 Goals for every student: Be prepared for college. Develop college-bound beliefs & behaviors. Graduate from college. To achieve these goals, we inspire students to imagine their future, provide belief-altering experiences that broaden their vision of what is possible, and build students' academic skill sets to attain their goals. Our results speak for themselves: Top 10% CPS HS in ACT growth - out-performing nearly all CPS selective enrollment schools Top 25% CPS HS in College Enrollment - out-performing the average college enrollment of other area schools by 26 percentage points 33% of EPIC Seniors earn college credit before graduation $9.4M in college scholarships from the last graduating class EPIC Philosophy We believe post-secondary education is the equalizer for life options and long-term happiness. Qualifications Master's Degree in Social Work Type 731 PEL REQUIRED Prior experience with urban teens preferred Prior school experience preferred Personal Characteristics Highly organized with the ability to multi-task and prioritize Facilitation skills in providing mentoring and counseling across all targeted areas Possess a repertoire of support and intervention techniques personalized to individual students Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, students, parents, and community members School Year Responsibilities : Act quickly on referrals from teachers to provide counseling for students with social and emotional issues Communicate with all-staff to increase awareness of students in need of support Coordinate and run student support groups (anger management, anxiety/depression, teen parents, substance abuse, self-esteem, etc.) Monitor students' emotional and social data using online tracking for progress updates on all students in caseload as well as school-wide RTI cases Assist with implementing services for students experiencing homelessness Display professionalism at all times as a role model for the students and guardian of school mission, core values, and culture Provide regular reports and paper work to administration critical to tracking student progress and school compliance with high levels of organization and timeliness Work collaboratively with Behavioral Health Team to assist with implementing services within the MTSS framework Summer Responsibilities: Analyze freshmen intake forms to ensure school has a wealth of information about students and families Meet with high need students over the summer Contact counselors from elementary schools to build a freshmen 'watch list'; recruit students to participate in summer programs Build resources for support groups and tools for students struggling with different issues (anger management, anxiety/depression, teen parents, substance abuse, self-esteem, etc.) Develop and maintain community and city-wide partners for Tier 3 interventions for students EPIC Daily Non-Negotiables Know where 100% of students are toward mastery Expect college-bound beliefs and behaviors.
