The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County provides opportunities for people to connect with nature. We offer to the public 60 forest preserves, 145 miles of trails, 47 miles of rivers and streams, and 6 nature and cultural centers. We have 6 million visitors each year. The District's mission is, "to acquire and hold lands containing forests, prairies, wetlands and associated plant communities or lands capable of being restored to such natural conditions for the purpose of protecting and preserving the flora, fauna and scenic beauty for the education, pleasure and recreation of it's citizens. Job Purpose This position promotes the District's public education by assisting with the coordination and execution of presenting summer camps and educational programs to the public. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist staff with education programs Assist with and lead summer youth camps Assist in educating public visitors about local wildlife and various environmental issues Assist staff with special events Assist staff with preparation and presentation of nature programs including set up, clean up, and maintenance of education materials and supplies Assist staff with camp participant pick up and drop off Receive working guidance from Visitor Engagement Services staff Perform other duties as required Education and Experience Required Additional Information: Must be 16 years of age or older at time of hire. Job is located at Headquarters in Wheaton, but camp is at Fullersburg Woods. Applicants must be able to get to Fullersburg Woods on camp days. Hours: May - August; Monday- Friday 7:30am-2:00pm, 32-40 hours per week (hours vary and may include weekends, evenings, and holidays). Related Experience: Required: experience with children. Preferred: experience in natural science, teaching, event coordination or planning. Skills In: Interacting with the public in a courteous and professional manner; communicating effectively, verbally and in writing; and interpreting rules and regulations.
