The OpportunityHorizons at The Episcopal Academy seeks a qualified, talented, dynamic and enthusiastic Reading Specialist toserve during the 2023 six-week summer program. The Reading Specialist will support teachers and students inmeeting the individual needs of students in the area of reading throughout the six weeks. He/she will havefurther responsibility of understanding and assisting in implementing current methodologies, effectiveinstructional strategies and collecting and organizing student data.About You● Bachelor's degree in education or related field and a reading specialist certification is preferred● Minimum of 5 years teaching experience● Complete all state and federal clearances and be CPR/AED certified● Experience supporting teachers and students in improving reading achievement● Implement and monitor a plan for reading support● Provide small group (pull-out) reading instruction and push-in reading intervention● Model, co-plan, co-deliver reading instruction● Assist classroom teachers by providing them with additional strategies for those students who have beenidentified for additional instruction● Work with the classroom teacher to monitor student progressA Little More About UsHorizons at the Episcopal Academy provides a six-week, full day educational enrichment summer sessiondesigned to encourage students from diverse, limited income and resource populations to realize their fullpotential.We are committed to the development of the whole child through experiences that build problem solving skills,foster awareness of community responsibility, instill respect for others, and encourage a life-long interest inlearning. Our goal is to reduce the "summer slide" and our students generally gain 2-3 months in math andreading skills over the summer.Students from Episcopal Academy's partner schools (Overbrook Educational Center in West Philadelphia andArdmore Avenue Elementary in Lansdowne) are selected through an application process for this tuition-freesummer experience and return yearly until graduating into our High School program. Horizons blendshigh-quality academics with arts, athletics, cultural enrichment, and confidence-building activities, including aspecial focus on the important life skill of swimming. During the summer of 2023, Horizons at EpiscopalAcademy will have 9 classes of 15 students who have completed grades K through 8th. A lead and assistantteacher are placed in each classroom in addition to Episcopal Upper School student volunteers. Teachers areable to design a project-based curriculum and integrate learning strategies that address the individual needs ofthe students.The dates for the 2023 Horizons program are June 20th through July 28th with July 4th as a program holiday.The program meets daily, Monday through Friday, from 7:45 am until 3:30 pm. Reading Specialists areexpected to honor the full time, six week commitment and teacher orientation dates.Our salary for teachers is very competitive.
