Summary This position will assist in Wet Chemistry fibers department and will be responsible for, but not limited to these duties: Fiber analyses, subsampling and allocation of bulk samples per client analyses request, instrument maintenance, quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) of sample results. This position requires strict adherence to testing protocols and QA/QC. Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm Essential Functions and Responsibilities Subsampling and allocation of bulk samples per client analyses request Perform fiber analyses: Acid and Neutral Detergent extractions, Lignin, Crude fiber, Invitro Assists in maintaining a safe work environment Assist in gravimetric analysis Process data entry into computer program Proficient use of Microsoft Excel Keep current on lab methods and procedures Wash glassware and labware by hand Handle wet glass and use a tube brush Help maintain equipment and overall cleanliness of the wet chemistry lab Ensure adequate reagents & chemicals associated with each type of assigned analyses are available. Maintenance and calibration of instruments Responsible for disposing of chemicals properly Helps with other duties and analyses as assigned by supervisor Attend staff meetings Communicate effectively with management and staff Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor Competencies Maintain a high level of confidentiality Communicate effectively with employees, customers and/or vendors in-person and on the telephone Demonstrate good organizational and time management skills Perform basic skills using a personal computer and standard software programs Listen effectively and follow directions Good visual acuity Remain stationary for reasonable periods of time communicating with employees, and customers and sitting at a computer Lift, carry, or pull objects up to 50 lbs. Move around in a laboratory and office environment during a workday Occasionally be required to climb, stoop, kneel, stretch, crouch, or crawl when necessary with instrumentation, machines, and storage of materials Possess knowledge of office procedures and methods including telephone communications, office systems, and record keeping Working knowledge of methodologies Proficiency in Microsoft office products Produce accurate and high-quality results and data entry Education and/or Experience High School Diploma or GED required Previous lab experience (or familiar with lab environment) preferred but will train the right person Physical Demands Regularly (70-100%): Standing Walking Use of Hands and Fingers Talking Hearing/Listening Vision-Near/Far/Depth Perception Work Environment Work is performed largely in a laboratory environment with moderate noise level and dusty environment There may be occasions when the work environment is stressful Work schedule will normally be Monday through Friday 8:00AM-4:30PM with occasional weekend and/or evening hours depending upon need Will be exposed to chemicals, dust, molds, smoke, other allergens (i.e. nuts), high temperatures, and strong odors on a regular basis.
