Job Description STEAM Center Intern SUPERVISOR: STEAM Center Manager FLSA STATUS: Internship Position Timespan: Soonest available - April 30, 2023 Position Stipend: $14/hour DEPARTMENT: Program LOCATION: Fort Smith, Arkansas LAST UPDATED: February 3, 2023 POSITION SUMMARY The STEAM* Center Intern will work closely with and assist the STEAM Center Manager at The STEAM Center at Burnham Woods in Fort Smith, AR. A key member of the Program Department, the STEAM Center Intern will develop a program or project based on the council's needs and enhance the ability to deliver quality STEAM programming to girls. *Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES Work cooperatively with the STEAM Center Manager to understand, develop, and implement sustainable projects to support the Girl Scout STEAM experience. Assist with STEAM programming as necessary (occasional weekend availability) Develop an understanding of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, Girl Scout STEAM programming, and concepts in STEAM education. Maintains a positive attitude and professionalism with girls, parents, volunteers, and staff Support council, regional, and functional efforts. In keeping with our commitment to the Girl Scouts Law and Promise, our council emphasizes teamwork, investment in the organization's success, and commitment to each other. To align with those values, we expect that all team members will actively engage in 'all call' endeavors as announced by the organization periodically. There are times throughout our year when the work of other departments becomes heavy and/or critically timely. In the spirit of teamwork, we require that requests for assistance be met with collaborative enthusiasm by all team members. Examples may include but are not limited to-membership recruitment/renewal campaigns and efforts, product program logistics and support to include cookie cupboards and volunteer assistance, volunteer appreciation and engagement, retail inventory and delivery (among regional offices), program signature event participation, and support, and property maintenance/improvement as requested. KNOWLEDGE AND CREDENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS Required Experience, or desire to gain experience, in informal STEAM education, project management, partnership building, adult learning, and youth development. Valid driver's license and safe driving record. Ability to pass a background check. Preferred Experience, or degree-seeking, in STEAM fields, adult learning, education, or youth programming. Knowledge of Girl Scout Leadership Experience. First Aid and CPR certification Social media marketing experience ABILITY AND SKILLS QUALIFICATIONS Membership with GSUSA and subscribing to the principles of the Girl Scout Movement. Strong human relations skills and ability to work well with others of diverse cultures Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple priorities, work independently, and meet deadlines Ability to exercise good judgment Ability to follow directions and demonstrate task completion Ability to motivate others and encourage them toward the Girl Scout Leadership Experience Solution-driven with the ability to work efficiently and creatively problem solve Excellent written and oral communication skills Work requires normal physical effort primarily for an office environment; some physical effort in handling materials or boxes and tools or equipment of up to 25 pounds in non-strenuous work. Some periods of continual standing or walking may be required. Ability to perform duties including but not limited to; public speaking, hands-on program delivery working with Girl and Adult members, and the occasional ability to work in the outdoor elements. Environmental Respect - demonstrating respect and care for all organizational property and facilities; engaging in practices that support a welcoming and productive workspace; remaining mindful and sensitive to the needs/feelings of other team members; doing your part to keep property and facilities clean, uncluttered and well-maintained to support an optimally operational environment; dedicating yourself toward the Girl Scout ideal of 'leaving a place/space better than you found it; conserving energy and resources whenever possible. Possibility Thinking - striving to contribute to a 'next-level' mindset regarding organizational objectives; engaging in innovative work plans to achieve goals; participating in discussions and seeking input regarding problem-solving measures; exhibiting creativity and a willingness to try new things to achieve results. SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITIES Staff: None Committee(s): None HOURS AND TRAVEL Flexible schedule, including possible nights and weekends, as required for girl programming. Travel to troop sites and other requested meetings, if required, will be reimbursed at mileage rates in force per company policy.
