JOB OPENING CITY OF FARMINGTON JOB POSITION #147: PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER I or II (DOQ) NUMBER OF VACANCIES: 8 DEPARTMENT: PRCA/Parks Operations WORK LOCATION: 901 Fairgrounds Road HIRING RANGE: Worker I- $15.52- $24.17/Hour OR Worker II- $16.38 to $25.51/Hour PAY GRADE: "F" or "G" Depending on Qualifications DAYS WORKED: Varied HOURS WORKED: 40 Hours/Week TYPE OF POSITION: Regular, Full-Time APPLICATIONS WILL BE RECEIVED UNTIL: Until Filled JOB DUTIES Resumes submitted without a City of Farmington application will not be considered in our job selection process. Parks Maintenance Worker II Job Description ESSENTIAL DUTIES Ability to work weekends, holidays, and various work hours. Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of buildings, grounds and parks. Preforms all duties of a maintenance worker I as written and seasonal positions. The ability to perform foreman duties as needed or required. Works under the supervision of the Parks Foreman. May supervise Parks Maintenance Worker I positions, community service workers or seasonal employees as required and assigned. Assists in the training and/or supervision of lower level employees or community service workers. Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City. Sweeps, washes, paints, and repairs or replaces park tables and slabs. Performs minor semi-skilled interior building maintenance such as painting, carpentry, and other unskilled and semi‑skilled trades work. Performs routine maintenance on lawn and power equipment. Plants lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers. Uses proper pruning techniques and has the ability to obtain knowledge of plant, tree, and weed identification. Operates backhoe, tractors, mowing equipment, hand mowers, jack hammers, welders, dump trucks, trucks, steam cleaners, buffers, washers, and other listed equipment as needed. Maintains current skills and knowledge in the proper and safe techniques of building and grounds maintenance functions. Collects and disposes of solid waste from buildings and grounds; picks up litter from premises. Opens and closes, locks and unlocks facilities as needed. Assists in setting up and taking down equipment for various park and recreation programs, prepares facilities for park and recreation program use. Assists in the construction of new parks facilities, including clearing, grading, drainage, irrigation, and foundation work. Keeps records of work completed. Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public Attendance at work is an essential function of this position. May assign work assignments, scheduling and delegating work. Mows and maintains park and open space areas such as baseball and soccer fields; mows weeds; cleans and maintains tennis courts and nets; maintains sprinkler systems and assists in the repair and installation of sprinkler lines and heads. Carries out the seeding, fertilizing, top dressing, soil conditioning, watering, pest and weed control of parks and open spaces. Maintains and adjusts specialized turf care equipment and tools, including electric motors, pumps, sprinklers, tractors, mowers, and irrigation systems. Performs custodial work such as required and assigned, including: ; sweep floors; vacuum carpets; mop; shampoo and steam clean carpets; buff non-carpeted areas; dump garbage and reline cans with liners; clean and sanitize rest rooms and replenish supplies; sweep; empty ash cans; clean spills; clean drinking fountains, mirrors, tables, walls, fixtures, blinds, etc.; dust furniture; wash windows, walls, metal and woodwork; snow and ice removal, clean rain gutters; sweep roofs. Basic computer skills. NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS This position is subject to the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy which includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing. This position requires a baseline audiometric examination. Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, and two years experience in repair and maintenance work, or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. Ability to obtain a New Mexico herbicide applicator's license. Valid driver's license with CDL endorsement, with acceptable driving record for past three years, or ability to obtain CDL within 1 year of entry into position. Working knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building and grounds construction and maintenance. Working knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs; working knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions. Skill in the operation of listed tools and equipment. Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule. Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions. Ability to work under stress and handle stressful situations. Ability to meet deadlines.
