FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for the position of tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Journalism/Media Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences Visual and Performing Arts/Media Studies. FVSU, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students including graduate students. The university is located in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County, the original site of the state's peach industry. Its 1,365-acre (5.52 km2) campus is Georgia's second-largest public university in area. The Department of Visual/Performing Arts and Media Studies offers a broad-based liberal arts curriculum that balances theory, research, professional practice and critical inquiry, and prepares students to become innovative, professional, and ethical communicators ready to thrive in a rapidly evolving field and industry. The department offers programs in multimedia journalism, television and radio, communication, and the performing arts. The department is dedicated to excellence in the production and diffusion of knowledge and the critical practice of media and the performing arts. It aims to develop civically engaged and informed citizens capable of reflecting on local and global issues. It strives to graduate ethical scholars, artists, and professionals in the various communication fields and specialties. Information about the department can be found at www.fvsu.edu/artsandsciences . yetcwrruaaadfcyu JOB SUMMARY: Fort Valley State University is searching for a tenured- track faculty to coordinate the major degree program and teach undergraduate courses in Journalism/Media Studies to begin January 6, 2023. This position is Applicants should be familiar with current journalistic and media studies guidelines and up-to-date technologies for writing, researching, photojournalism, reporting, and layout and design. The desired candidate should also be familiar with concepts involving research, planning, implementation, and evaluation in relation to media campaigns. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Build and maintain an emerging program of research, scholarship and practice in print journalism and/or Media Studies. Maintain active scholarly endeavors. Pursue extramural funding in alignment with university priorities. Teach undergraduate courses in print journalism, media studies, and conduct research in the field Provide meaningful service contributions both within and beyond the university. Maintain an active research agenda Serve as academic and/or organizational advisor to students Required Skills and Qualifications Ph.D. in print journalism, media studies, evidencing a minimum 18 semester hours of graduate course work in one of these fields or study Knowledge of and experience with industry-specific software applications Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion Current knowledge of the principles, methods, and developments in the field of study. Experiences with instructional strategies and techniques for teaching diverse students. Demonstrated ability to support, instruct, manage, motivate and evaluate students. Skilled in the use of computers, Internet resources, and MS Office software. Ability to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process. Ability to interact successfully with students, other educators and educational institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies Higher education teaching experience preferred.
