Job Summary: The Machining Engineer is responsible for the creation and approval of fixturing designs, tooling designs, CNC Programs as well as overseeing the implementation of these designs until they are proven effective. This position is also responsible for process improvements including cycle time reductions and process flow improvements. Essential Functions of the Job: Interact with all internal departments regarding cast vs. machining decisions. Utilize CAD and CAM systems for design of tooling, fixtures, and for generation of cutter paths. Make design decisions on new jobs, including machine selection, part orientation, fixturing points, clamping strategy, tools required to achieve finishes and tolerances, etc. Quote machining piece prices, fixturing, and spindle tooling. Design or approve others' design of machining fixturing and tooling. Oversee building and startup until proved capable and production ready, including adherence to all acceptance criteria, and capability of running at quoted production rates. Produce detailed documentation of processes. Troubleshoot difficult machining problems and assist other setup personnel in solving problems. Lead and/or participate in root-cause analyses. Initiate reviews of existing processes and search for and implement continuing improvements. Train various machining personnel on basic principles of machining, equipment setup, troubleshooting, use of setup sheets, and quality systems procedures. Ensure that documentation, both paper and electronic, is properly organized, stored. Generate cycle time estimates and tooling cost for new product quotations. Required Skills/Abilities: Engineering Degree and related experience Two years minimum experience with CNC machines and mechanical tools Two years minimum experience using of CAD & CAM software: MasterCam (CAM), Solidworks (CAD) and Inventor (CAD & CAM, plus others) which is Autodesk suite of products. Understanding of finance, capital appropriations, and budgeting practices Ability to work in a team atmosphere and possess strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work without close supervision and handle multiple projects simultaneously and be self-motivated. Machining experience within a high production facility is a plus. Automation and macro programming experience is a plus.
