Interested in Volunteering? ANIMAL SHELTER The Tooele City Animal Shelter relies on volunteers to help us care for our special family members and to maintain our facility operations. We are often overwhelmed at the support we get from our community with helping us meet the needs of the shelter. With our volunteer program, our goal is to have an established and reliable volunteer roster with set duties and responsibilities for which we can ensure you are trained to safely perform. Every so often there are unique or specialized contributions volunteers can provide so if we don't have it listed on our service list, let us know more about your proposed services in your application. The most common services volunteers can perform include: Walking dogs / playing with dogs / general interaction with shelter dogs. Playing with friendly cats / general interaction with shelter cats. Taming of feral kittens / handling fearful cats / socializing fearful cats & kittens Animal Care - help our shelter staff care for animals (cleaning & sanitation of cages, feeding animals, sweeping/mopping, etc.) (mornings- approximately 7 AM to 11 AM) Morning Transport from Shelter, to Veterinarian - Picking up animals in the morning (approx. 7 AM) and taking them to the veterinarian in Murray, UT (for spay/neuter, vaccinations, medical treatments, etc.) All animals will be in carriers provided by the shelter during transport. Evening Transport from Veterinarian, to Shelter - Picking up animals from the veterinarian in Murray, UT and transporting them back to the shelter. (Pick up times can be unpredictable as it is determined by the time that the veterinarian has finished all of the animals' medical procedures-it is typically between noon and 6 pm. Medical Emergency Transport - volunteer that the shelter may contact in the event that a medical emergency comes into the shelter and the animal needs transportation into the Salt Lake Valley for emergency veterinary care. The transporter could be contacted at any time and asked if they are available to volunteer transportation services for an injured/sick animal. Volunteer must be at least 16 years old and some services require that a volunteer is 18 or older. We do not allow children to accompany a volunteer at the facility. The shelter accept volunteer applications throughout the year and reviews them as vacancies occur or the needs of the shelter change.
