The Linfield University Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) program is recruiting for substitute teachers. The Pre-K provides 2.5-hour pre-k sessions two days a week for children who are 3-4 years of age, and 2.5-hour pre-k sessions three days a week for children who are 4-5 years of age. In addition, the pre-k serves as a training program for Linfield University education students gaining direct experience working with children in a classroom environment in conjunction with their coursework. The Pre-K is a child-centered, family friendly program that supports developmentally appropriate practices. We are accredited through the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Job summary: Substitute teachers are responsible for providing instruction to preschoolers and managing the classroom environment in the absence of the regular teacher. The position is an on-call, as-needed position that can be short or long-term depending on need of the regular teacher. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Implement and teach lesson plans and instructions as directed by the absent teacher and consult with the director or assistant director for further directions Work with intern and work-study staff to set up the classroom for the day's activities, manage the daily schedule and clean-up materials/equipment Implement developmentally appropriate practices maintaining an environment that is respectful to all and providing positive guidance and discipline to the children Supervise children at all times and maintain a safe environment Keep records on accidents, injuries, and incidents Communicate in a friendly and positive manner towards families, preschoolers and staff Leaves notes for the regular teacher at the end of the teaching day Qualifications: Child Development Associate (CDA) credential and at least one year experience in an early childhood program, or an equivalent combination of experience and education demonstrating knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties of the job Registered in the Central Background Registry through the Office of Child Care Knowledge and experience with developmentally appropriate practices Understanding of effective positive classroom management practices and principles Effective communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills Recognizing child abuse and neglect training CPR and First Aid certification Preferred Qualifications: Food handlers permit Yearly medical training administrating medications Physical Requirements: Work is performed in a pre-school environment. Must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations. Constant talking, seeing, hearing, sitting and standing. Frequent walking, bending, stooping. Daily climbing stairs, exposure to outdoor weather, lifting, pushing or pulling up to 30 pounds. Must be CPR certified and able to perform CPR and/or first aid as needed.
