SOUTH BAY SANDBLASTING & TANK CLEANING, INC. is a local San Diego shipyard related subcontractor looking to hire a Certified Sandblaster. Essential Functions and Major Responsibilities: Must be proficient in the use and maintenance of power tools used to perform scaling and removal of protective coatings and non-skid such as needle guns, chippers, grinders, and sanders, etc.... Must be equipped with a tool bag containing basic tools such as a crescent wrench, Allen wrenches, screwdrivers (Phillips and basic), hammer, etc. Must be able to set up blast equipment for sandblast operations (C-7). Must be able to trouble shoot and repair all equipment he/she operates in performing blasting operations. Qualification and Education Requirements: Must possess a valid SSPC C-7 certification with a minimum of 2 years shipboard experience. High School diploma or GED equivalent. Working Conditions and Physical Demands: The normal work shift is 6:00 am to 3:00 pm but it is expected that overtime hours will be required. Work is conducted outdoors frequently exposed to prevailing weather conditions. Work indoor or aboard vessel which may have fumes, chemicals and heat as well as noise and dust present depending upon the location of work. Other exposures may be exposed to vibrations, smoke, acids, degreasing cleaners, fumes dust, solvents, oil, grease and confined spaces. Safety equipment required. Requires clothing with no holes, eye protection, and respirator and hearing protection, and may require wearing a hard hat and/or welder's helmet. The individual must be able to frequently climb inclined stairways and vertical. While in work areas the person will be exposed to all weather conditions, noise, dusts and odors. Work aboard the vessels can be strenuous and sometimes hazardous. Dynamic, fast-paced outdoor setting with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity in the shipyard. Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time. Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed. The physical demands described above are representative of those that may be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
