DEPARTMENT: Parks & Recreation SUPERVISOR: Aquatic Manager/Aquatic Specialist/Swim Coordinator SALARY: Starting Salary $12.00 per hour LOCATION: The Pointe, #1 Ballwin Commons Circle, Ballwin, MO 63021 and North Pointe Aquatic Center, 335 Holloway Rd, Ballwin, MO, 63011 JOB SUMMARY: To ensure the good will of swim lesson participants by maintaining a safe aquatic atmosphere. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Report directly to the Aquatic Manager, Aquatic Specialist, and Swim Coordinator. Provide a safe aquatic environment for swim lesson participants. Responsible for enforcing rules and regulations governing the conduct of pool patrons. Follow the American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED established emergency action plan procedures developed by the department in the event of an emergency. Maintenance and cleaning swim lesson equipment. Project a professional and healthy image through dress, behavior, and attitude. Respond to all patron needs in a courteous manner and report comments/complaints to the manager on duty. Attend mandatory curriculum training and meetings during each season. Teach American Red Cross based swimming lessons. Assist with the City of Ballwin Parks & Recreation programs and events as needed. Other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Must be able to lift 25 lbs. objects. Maintain a professional and mature attitude toward responsibilities, fellow staff and patrons. Work effectively with supervisors, co-workers and the public. Must be able to work Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 4:15p-6:45p as well as Saturday mornings 9:15a-11:45a. Must be able to work Monday- Thursday (Make ups on Fridays) from 9:30-11:15AM in June, July, and August UNIFORM & EQUIPMENT USED TO PERFORM THE JOB: Swim suit, sunglasses, hat/visor, sunscreen, resuscitation mask, automated external defibrillator and cleaning supplies. EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Must be a minimum of 14 years of age. American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED. Training Available PREFERED CERTIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification preferred. Signature: ___________________________ Date: ______________ The City of Ballwin Statement on Youth Employment (14 to 15 years old) The City of Ballwin has created a trainee program for certain positions within the Parks and Recreation Department. This program was created to introduce youth to the workforce with the goal of helping them to learn proper employment skills. Trainee positions will be treated as a platform for recruiting youth to regular paying positions within the parks and recreation department. Trainee positions include North Pointe Attendant, Swim Lesson Instructor Trainee, and Counselor in Training. Regular paying positions include Lifeguard, Camp Counselor, Swim Instructor, Front Desk Employee, and Concession Stand Attendant. In accordance with state and federal wage and hour laws, The City Ballwin is exempt from paying the current state minimum wage so long as hourly wages are at least the current federal minimum wage. Trainee positions will be paid at a rate that is $2.00 less than the current state minimum wage or federal minimum wage, whichever is higher. In accordance with state and federal laws regarding youth employment, the City of Ballwin will require a work certificate to be completed by the child's parents, school, and the City of Ballwin. In some cases, a child may be required to provide two certificates, one for the school year and one for summer break. Children 14 to 15 years of age are permitted to work up to eight hours per day between 7:00 am and 9:00 pm during summer break. During the school year, children are permitted to work 3 hours per day between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm. The following is a link to the State of Missouri's youth employment website.
