Position Summary The Solar Installation Apprentice will attend a state-approved apprenticeship training program and successfully complete according to academic schedule while working under a qualified Solar Technician to perform manual field labor necessary to learn the process of installation for footings, racking, solar panels, and other project objectives and goals in a safe and productive manner. Primary Responsibilities (Essential Duties) Complete all required or directed training, certification, licensing, and other learning and development as assigned. Abide by all Federal, State, and local laws; uphold and maintain accountability to all Company policy. Attend and participate in a state-approved training program, meeting all periodic requirements in attendance and assignments, and pass each assignment or assessment satisfactorily. Under the direction of a qualified Solar Technician, will train to conduct daily equipment inspections, perform preventative maintenance, and operate all vehicles and equipment within safe limits as set by manufacturers recommendation or local law to minimize the risk of injury or property damage. Attend all pre-shift safety and production meetings according to schedule, participate in daily team stretching exercise, and support end of day site clean-up. Under the direction of a qualified Solar Technician, will train to count inventory, clean project sites, prep project sites, load and unload materials and equipment, stage materials and equipment on project sites, perform project errands, clean equipment, and operate light machinery (forklifts, skid steers) when qualified. Will regularly move, carry, pour, set, or shovel, physically or mechanically, aggregate, screws, and other materials used. Demonstrate positive team behavior that contributes to efficiency, productivity, safety, and quality. Must be willing to overnight travel on multi-day assignments. All other duties as assigned. Secondary Responsibilities May operate side-by-side ATV's or other buggy-type vehicle off road. In addition to the responsibilities listed above, individuals may perform other duties as assigned, including work in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods or otherwise to balance the workload. Education / Experience (an equivalent combination of education and/or experience) Years of Experience: 4+ Year Area: Highschool Graduate or Equivalent Competencies / Technical Skills Core Competencies: Adaptability, Flexibility, Communication, Initiative, Accountability Organizational Competencies: Teamwork, Safety, Work standards, Time management Thinking Additional Position Competencies: Stress tolerance Technical Skills: Familiarity of tablet or iPhone technology Licenses / Certifications None Physical Requirements Field work is performed mostly in remote outdoor and uncovered areas exposed to varying elements, allergens, weather conditions, temperatures, and wildlife. Work requires large amounts of time spent standing, stooping, kneeling, bending or twisting at the waist, and walking on uneven or slippery ground conditions. Must be able to lift and carry up to 60 lbs. unassisted. Will be routinely exposed to loud noises (100+ dB). Must be able to work in sustained extreme temperatures ( 90° F). Will be required to wear PPE including, but not limited to, safety boots, hard hat, eye and ear protection. Must be able to give and receive verbal communications in English for HAZCOM. May occasionally be required to respond positively to emergency situations requiring immediate corrective action to prevent project degradation, or prevent personnel injury, or requiring the performance of CPR/First Aid. Classroom work may take place in a physical academic setting or virtually. The apprentice must be able to manipulate computers, hardware, and software to successfully complete training assignments. The apprentice must be able to verbally communicate with instructors in a common language. Work Conditions Environment: Field Conditions and Classroom Setting Travel: Up to 100% Special Work Conditions: This is primarily an overnight/on-the-road travel position operating out of the assigned site locations, with periodic physical or virtual classroom participation. Incumbents are required to report to the assigned site location at the start of their schedule and will then receive company transportation to all required locations until the end of the schedule. Start and ending locations may differ. Field schedules vary in duration depending on construction and may run several work weeks without a return home. Work weeks are typically 5.5 days per week, 8-10 hours per day. Travel between, or to and from, assigned site location and home is not compensated. Work will primarily take place outdoors, throughout the entire year, in varying and inclement weather conditions. Occasionally projects will require site specific Health and Safety Plans due to past or current uses. May be directed to work immediately following major storms, natural disasters, and other weather or man-made events that disrupt or endanger business continuity. Incumbent may experience stress in the workplace including, but not limited to customer service complaints, competing priorities of reasonable or high significance, and/or working through the exchange of ideas with others.
