STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: The Utilization review nurse works with a high degree of independence to ensure that utilization management requirements established by payers are carried out in timely manner. The utilization review nurse works collaboratively with payer, staff, and case manager to track ongoing care needs and utilization requirements and/or guidelines. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: "*" Denotes the essential job functions according to ADA guidelines. JOB REQUISITES: A) EDUCATION AND TRAINING:Education Required: Clinically licensed or registered as healthcare professional in the state ofMissouri. B) EXPERIENCE:Experience Required: 3 years acute care clinical experience occurring within the last 5 years,General knowledge of acute standards of care. C) SKILLS AND ABILITIES: - Read and understand English- Excellent communication skills to interact with patients, visitors and staff.- Ability to manage time and organize daily schedule to meet productivity standards.- Good computer skills.- Ability to work effectively in situations of high stress and conflict and communicate the goals and outcomes of case management. - Individual must possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills. - Possesses knowledge of Interqual-Discharge screens, Microsoft Office, and community resources. - Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality of material and information accessed and reviewed - Possesses independent work habits, is self reliant and self directed. - Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality of material and information accessed and reviewed Must have knowledge of growth and development and show clinical expertise for the ages of patients served, including child, adolescent, adult and geriatric. Possesses the ability to understand and react effectively to patients' needs. An individual without requisites stated above may present a written justification explaining the relevance of his/her background for a specific vacant position. Depending on organizational needs and availability of more qualified applicants, an applicant may have some or all requisites revised or waived at the health system's discretion. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to move freely, reach, bend and light lifting. Ability to use good body mechanics while performing daily job functions and ability to follow specific OSHA guidelines.
