Converse University is seeking applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Musicology position to begin in the fall of 2023. Candidates should hold a PhD in music history or musicology. University-level teaching experience is desirable. The successful candidate will be a scholar active in ongoing research and publication in their field. Converse maintains a robust music history curriculum that includes a 2-year undergraduate music history sequence, upper-level and graduate special topics and repertoire courses, a variety of music history and literature courses for the general student population, and occasional team-taught interdisciplinary courses for honors students. The successful candidate will teach across this curriculum; other duties will vary depending on the candidate's particular skills and experience. Converse University was founded as Converse College in 1889 to provide a liberal education to undergraduate women. Since then, Converse's offerings have expanded to include multiple graduate degrees. The Petrie School of Music is located within the School of the Arts and comprised of exceptional multi-disciplined programs in performance, music education, and music therapy. A charter member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), the School of Music is housed in the Blackman Music Hall, featuring the Daniel Recital Hall along with dedicated rehearsal, classroom, and private studio spaces. The School of Music also makes use of Twichell Auditorium, housed in the Zimmerli Performance Center on campus and seating nearly 1500 patrons. Renowned for its outstanding acoustics, this recently-renovated venue has hosted performances by celebrated artists since it was built in 1899.
