Job Title: Maintenance Operator Department: Utilities Reports to: Supervisor FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt Safety Sensitive Type: DOT Effective Date: 05/01/2022 Job Summary: Performs maintenance and repairing of water/wastewater plant equipment and facilities and other plant equipment. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Essential Job Functions: Note: This information is intended to be descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position. The list of essential functions below does not identify all duties performed by any single incumbent in this position. a. Maintain proper operation of pumps, motors and pumping station. b. Preform periodic maintenance and repair to plant equipment, grounds, and water and chemical feed lines at plant facilities. c. Operate a variety of medium equipment and maintain maintenance and repair records. d. May assist with the cleaning of sedimentation basins and clarifiers. e. Maintains records, structures, and run lab tests for PH levels. f. Inspect job sites for any damages to perform appropriate maintenance. g. Perform maintenance on vehicles, to include oil changes, tire pressure check, air filter replacement and troubleshoot engine repairs. h. Perform related work and reports as assigned. Conditions of Employment: a. Applicant will be subject to a complete background investigation. Incomplete, inaccurate and/or failure to report information will cause the applicant rejection from consideration. b. Applicant must take and pass a pre-employment drug test administered by the City of Edinburg at the City's expense. c. Must have a current valid class "B" CDL driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record. d. Achieve TCEQ Class "D" Surface Water License (Water Plant) or Wastewater Plant License within first (1) year of employment. e. Achieve TCEQ Class "C" Surface Water License (Water Plant) or Wastewater Plant License within three (3) year of employment. Required Education: Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency. Education Preference: Not Applicable Educational Substitute: Not Applicable Required Work Experience: Requires under and including one (1) year experience working in a surface water treatment plant, and or wastewater treatment plant. Experience Preference: Not Applicable Supervisory Experience Requirement: Not Applicable Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities a. Requires the occasional direction of helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, or temporary employees. b. Requires regular interaction involving exchange and receipt of information. c. Requires a comprehensive, practical knowledge of a technical field with use of analytical judgment and decision-making abilities appropriate to the work environment of the organization. d. Requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. e. Must possess familiarity with emergency power generator operations and minor repairs. f. Basic electrical knowledge. Equipment Materials: General office and safety equipment/materials to include but not limited to the following: · Power Tools · Torch/Welder · Backhoe · Hoist · Steel-toed boots Work Conditions: Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Occasional outside work. Mental Demands: While performing the duties of this class, the incumbent is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; use math and mathematical reasoning; perform detailed work, multiple deadlines and concurrent tasks; work with constant interruptions; and interact with staff and the public.
