Position Summary The Personal Service Attendant is under the supervision of the Nurse and is responsible for the well being and nursing care of all tenants assigned to him/her unit during a tour of duty. This includes conscientious reporting and documentation.The PSA functions in a responsible and professional manner with the policies, philosophy, goals and objectives of the Department of Nursing. She/he demonstrates nursing care responsibility and accountability for assigned tenants and their families. The PSA accepts instruction and guidance from the nurse to provide interventions to achieve goals that are established for the plan of care to resolve nursing problems.The PSA is at risk for exposure to blood borne pathogens, including HIV, Hepatitis B virus, MRSA and VRE.The PSA position requires support of the chain of command and adherence to it. Position Qualifications This position requires that the individual be a graduate of an approved course for certification with the state of Iowa and possess current certification.Must possess the following: willing to continually upgrade skills and knowledge. Able to accept instruction and guidance, function effectively under stress. Know the chain of command and utilize it when appropriate. Have the ability to exercise judgement in problem situations. Have the ability to communicate effectively face to face or by telephone. Be in good physical condition and able to withstand hours of standing, stooping, walking, bending, and sitting without injury. Able to withstand the stress and demands of an active position. Manual dexterity, good eye-to hand coordination and adequate vision are needed in daily work. Able to read, speak and write fluent English. Knows and uses good body mechanics at all times on the job. No activity restrictions noted on pre-hire physical and testing. Ability to handle and operate complex equipment. Flexibility in working hours and assignments. Honest, empathetic and accountable. Able to lift 80-100 lbs. (resident transfers, etc.) Must not exceed 80-100 lbs. for lifting and must use mechanical or staff assistance as is recommended for each individual tenant.
