Reports to: Digital Communications Manager Term: Regular, Full-Time, Occasional evenings and weekends required. Position Status: Non-exempt Pay Range: $25.00- $33.00/hour, commensurate with experience. Requirements: Must have proof of COVID-19 Vaccination/Boosters. Work Location: Anaheim, CA. Staff are currently working with a hybrid schedule, with three days in-person and two days remote. Requires some travel throughout the Greater Los Angeles Area (vehicle and driver's license required). ABOUT THE ROLE: We're looking for a talented writer who is passionate about sharing stories that are important to the American Muslim community. This position involves: (1) Crafting effective press statements about our work and current events that capture the attention of local and national media (2) Highlighting client stories and case victories on our website, e-newsletter, and social media (3) Collaborating with our various departments to promote events and fundraising efforts. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Draft and edit external communications including press statements/releases, fact sheets, e-mails, e-newsletters,- and action alerts. Pitch and secure stories to ensure coverage of issues of strategic importance including CAIR-LA's programs, special events, public announcements, and other projects. Review, edit, and proofread CAIR-CA publications including the annual report and various other reports. Write blogs, case studies, opinion pieces, and letters to the editor. Conduct and coordinate media interviews, including preparing statements and talking points. Collaborate with other departments to gather and maintain CAIR-LA's story bank of client stories, testimonials, and case victories. Proactively work with the media to generate comprehensive and accurate coverage of Islam and American Muslims. Build and foster relationships with local and regional media outlets, journalists, and other relevant entities. Work with Digital Communications Manager to: Coordinate social media content and marketing campaigns across all channels including, but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. Maintain website and social media presence; send out email newsletter and updates to community members regularly. Provide digital and print marketing support for CAIR programs and events. Plan, execute, and edit videos for YouTube and social media platforms. Assist our D.C. office with media work around national issues and campaigns. Other office duties as needed including day-to-day operational tasks and assisting with organizational fundraising events. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in Communications/Public Relations/Journalism or related field is required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Video editing and graphic design experience is preferred. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, and PowerPoint. Working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.), Canva, and WordPress is preferred. Ability to take initiative and work independently. Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment. Passion for CAIR-CA's mission and values. Knowledge and understanding of issues relating to Islam and the American Muslim community.
