Position Summary Concordia University Wisconsin seeks applicants for a full-time Chair of the Department of Engineering on the CUW Mequon, WI campus. The candidate will be the founding Chair and should be visionary, industrious, and connected to a wide network of engineers. The position holds faculty rank and the rank will be based on the qualifications of the candidate. The position fulfills the University's mission to help students develop in mind, body, and spirit for service to Christ in the Church and the world via administration, teaching, scholarship and service. This is a twelve-month contract with the University. This position reports to the Dean of the School of Arts & Sciences. Job Duties & Responsibilities Each faculty member is expected to comply with all rules and regulations for University faculty as outlined in the CU Employee and Faculty Handbooks. In addition, each has the following responsibilities: Administrative Provide leadership and oversight to the faculty members within the Department, including hiring, onboarding, mentorship, and general supervision; Bolster the reputation of the programs by advancing ABET accreditation efforts; Oversee the development of new syllabi in the engineering programs; Schedule courses and assign faculty as instructors; Contribute to the creation and maintenance of student engineering labs; Participate in recruiting activities for prospective students; Build a network of industry partnerships for student internships, projects, etc. Facilitate the external advisory board, whose members will provide input into curriculum, industry and community partnerships, and trends in engineering fields; Provide stewardship of the department budget; Collaborate on fundraising efforts for the Department of Engineering; and Complete other duties that align within the University's strategic priorities. Academic Teach assigned academic credits per year, or the equivalent; Participate actively in curriculum development and assessment; and Hold office hours each week when in session. Scholarship Perform research, scholarship or creative activities according to the standards established in the CU Faculty handbook. Service Responsibilities Serve actively on committees within the Department, School and/or University; Assist in student recruitment, advising and mentoring; Attend opening service, faculty summit, and commencement exercises; and Attend and participate in plenary faculty meeting Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Displays strong written, oral, interpersonal, and group communication skills; Demonstrates effective organizational skills and is a self-starter who can work independently Able to work collaboratively as warranted, such as with Advancement and Strategic Communications/ Marketing; Exhibits a willingness and ability to work with diverse individuals and organizations; Able to present a professional demeanor; Able to travel occasionally, such as presenting at conferences; Ability to meet deadlines and work occasional nights/weekends; and Fully supportive of the Christian mission and values of Concordia University Wisconsin/Ann Arbor and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS) . Education & Experience The ideal candidate will have an earned doctoral degree in an engineering-related field. Preference will be given to candidates with degrees and practical experience in the areas of chemical, industrial, and mechanical engineering. ABD will be considered. Ideal candidate will have demonstrated excellence in college-level teaching and administration. Ideal candidate will show promise in the area of scholarship. Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with qualifications, education, and experience.
