Aquatics: Assistant Swim Coach

The Assistant Swim Team Coach assists the Head Coach in leading age-appropriate activities for groups of swimmers at practices. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Fulfill the Y's mission to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. Attend all practices and swim meets. Instruct swimmers to understand and master strokes allowing them to advance through the swim team groups Provide corrective feedback that will enhance swimmers' techniques. Build effective, authentic relationships with students and parents. Ensure the safety of swimmers during practice by following proper precautions and regulations. Lead warm ups and group practices with enthusiasm and care. Encourage the involvement of all participants. Assist with the recruiting, development and maintaining volunteers and parent groups/committees. Maintain records, organize equipment, and ensure completion of forms QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 16 years of age. Prior coaching experience preferred. Must be able to demonstrate proper swim techniques and strokes. American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer preferred. Visual abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral and depth perception and ability to adjust and focus. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to instruct with empathy and clarity. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Lead, demonstrate and/or participate in water activities for a sustained period of time. Climbing, bending, kneeling, twisting, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, lifting, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, visual acuity and swimming. Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Exposure to cleaning and pool chemicals as well as hot or cold temperatures. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to noisy. Work environment is frequently slippery and wet. May be required to work outside and on occasion may encounter inclement weather. Travel to and from competition may be required.
