Camp Settoga Job Title: Program Specialist: Challenge Course Coach Classification: Exempt (Seasonal) Reports to: The position reports to the Athletic Director who reports to the Assistant Director of Camps. Position Purpose: To further the mission of the camp through the development and delivery of challenge course activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the campers' age and abilities. Assist in the management of the physical operation of the challenge course equipment and facilities. Essential Job Functions: Develop and deliver a challenge course sports program that is appropriate for the age and ability of the campers Begin orientation with a challenge course training program with a professional. End the training with an assessment of skills, safety, and equipment. Develop lesson plans that meet camp outcomes and the abilities of the campers. Evaluate the abilities of campers to ensure they are progressing throughout the summer. Deliver progressive field and court sports activities. You will be responsible for leading campers ages 6-12. Evaluate the success of the challenge course program. Ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safety and educational procedures. Participate in the implementation of staff training for the challenge course. Work with other coaches to support their responsibilities when at the challenge course. Ensure campers and staff follow safety procedures. Incorporate staff into the daily programming with their groups. Assist in the management and care of the physical facilities and equipment at the challenge course area. Ensure the security of the challenge course equipment when not in use. Conduct a daily check of the area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair with the Athletic Director. Conduct a daily weather check and log for ACA standards. Clean field and court sports equipment on a set schedule. Other Job Duties: Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning and leading those as assigned. Assist in the planning of any special events. Maintain equipment lists. Support all camp activities. Bus responsibilities: lead bus counselor or bus counselor to help facilitate safety on the bus Salary Range: $3,500- $4,500 Relationships: Challenge course coaches work alongside other coaches to facilitate specialty periods. Challenge Course coaches will report to the Athletic Director and train alongside them. Equipment Used: Coordinate with the Athletic Director to identify where/how equipment is stored and work to keep equipment clean and organized through the summer. Equipment could be challenge course supplies such as ropes, helmets, bandanas, clips, etc. Qualifications (Minimum qualifications and experience) Documented experience in field and court sports instruction or documented training and experience in the variety of sports the camp offers. Challenge/ adventure/ ropes course experience is a plus!! Current certification in first aid and CPR. Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Training and experience in teaching field and court sports to children. Experience in setting up, securing, and maintaining field and court sports equipment. Knowledge of sports medicine or athletic training is desirable. Physical Aspects of the Position: Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff. Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity. Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers. Some physical requirements of a field and court sports position could be endurance including standing, running, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate equipment and demonstrate sports activities. Requires average range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/program.
